4. Changes in media
• Traditional media encompasses all the means of communication that
existed before the Internet and new media technology, including
printed materials (books, magazines, and newspapers), broadcast
communications (TV and radio), film, and music.
5. Media in 20th century.
• Media in the beginning of the 20th century was highly situated
around news papers or radio for families that could afford them or in
the movie theatre where news reels were played before silent films,
the mid 20th century led to a large prominence in radio or now tv
which were entering many more households , then in the late 20th
century the main medium for media was TV which had become a lot
more prominent or radio which many people still used as well as their
tv.
6. People pre 20th century.
• In the 19th century there were 4 monarchs, George III (1760–1820), George IV (1820–30),
William IV (1830–37), Victoria (1837–1901).
• In the early 19th century Britain was ruled by an elite. Only a small minority of men were
allowed to vote. The situation began to change in 1832 when the vote was given to more
men. Constituencies were also redrawn and many industrial towns were represented for
the first time. The franchise was extended again in 1867 and 1884. In 1872 the secret
ballot was introduced. Once most men could vote movements began to get women the
right to vote as well. In 1897 in Britain local groups of women who demanded the vote
joined to form the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS).
• In 19th century Britain at least 80% of the population was working class. In order to be
considered middle class, you had to have at least one servant. Most servants were
female. Throughout the 19th century, 'service' was a major employer of women.
7. Perception of military
• Most British monarchs throughout history have been in some form of
the military (army or navy as RAF didn’t exist in 19th century) during
the 1900 it was the “golden age” of the British empire.
During the 18th century, public perception of standing armies as
instruments of despotic government obliged Parliament to keep
Britain’s peacetime forces as small as possible. There were times,
however, when involvement in continental and colonial wars made it
necessary for Parliament to legislate hastily for the speedy recruitment
of vast additional forces.
9. What media is like now
• Contemporary, or "new", media is typically technology-driven media
derived from the internet. This means online publications, social
media, blogs, streaming video, and podcasts. It has replaced
traditional "legacy" media distribution (news stands, television, and
radio) with digital distribution of content.
10. What media is like now
• New media, on the other hand, includes electronic video games and
entertainment, and the Internet and social media. There have been
many drastic changes in media from first written hand being the only
way to record information, now there are many ways from written
hand, to typing it up.
11. Media now
• A large change within media is from visual to audio then audio visual.
This drastic change has led to many changes in how people view
information given to them, as it is now perceived differently and
received differently too, as with the change in how its seen means a
change in how people perceive the information given too them.
Media has also changed not only by how its shown but its content
too, as pre 20th century media mainly focused on information and
news but now most media is focused on entertainment rather than
news.
12. perception of military
• As both world wars were during the beginning- mid 20th century the
perception of the military so early to mid 20th century most military
perceptions were that they are/were hero’s but due to other factors
in the mid to late 20th century.
13. Military now
• The British army now uses many contemporary media forms now as
they not only have their own social medias (Instagram, Facebook,
twitter) they also have their own YouTube channel and websites to
get forward news, updates and recruitment information. There are
also other creators that use contemporary media for military news,
which make mini documentaries and articles and also have a TV
channel too.
16. Why Changes in media
• A large change within media is from visual to audio then audio visual.
This drastic change has led to many changes in how people view
information given to them, as it is now perceived differently and
received differently too, as with the change in how its seen means a
change in how people perceive the information given too them.
Media has also changed not only by how its shown but its content
too, as pre 20th century media mainly focused on information and
news but now most media is focused on entertainment rather than
news.
17. Why the perception was changing
• Perceptions have changed mostly because of people political stands
changing between the population. Some peoples perceptions
changed due to conflicts for example many people in the USA from
1955-1975, as that was when the Vietnam conflict was. Which caused
much hostility between the government and the public which led to
protests and riots between the government and public.
18. Why military
• Military perceptions have changed throughout time mostly due to
political movements and conflicts that are ongoing or that are recent
dictating peoples feelings towards the military. Such as during the first
and second world wars and after, which created a largely positive
view for the military. Since 1945 the UK have been involved in many
conflicts probably most noticeably the wars in the middle east
(Afghanistan and Iraq).
