ДЛЯ УЧНІВ 6 КЛАСУ
Тема: Shops and Shopping
Практична мета. Активізувати лексичні одиниці теми; розвивати навички
діалогічного мовлення, читання, аудіювання та письма;
Освітня мета. Поглибити знання з теми «Магазини та покупки»; розширити
кругозір учнів з даної теми. Формувати комунікативну і соціокультурну
компетенції.
Розвиваюча мета. Розвивати культуру спілкування у повсякденному житті,
вміння працювати y групах та в парах; сприяти розвитку критичного мислення,
креативності та когнітивної гнучкості.
Виховна мета. Виховувати культуру спілкування y практичному використанні
мови, формуючи в учнів уявлення про сучасний полікультурний світ.
Тип уроку: комбінований
Обладнання: Підручник, мультимедійне забезпечення: інтерактивна дошка та
проектор, презентація Power Point, відеоматеріал “Harrods”, картки із
завданнями для групової роботи та роботи в парах.
The Procedure
I. Introduction
1. Greeting
T: Good morning, guys!
Ps: Good morning, teacher!
T: I’m glad to see you! How are you today?
Ps: We are fine, thank you!
2. Aim
T: Please, look at the first slide, read the rhyme and try to guess what are we going to
talk about?
(Pupils guess the theme)
T: Yes, shops and shopping – it’s our theme. (Cлайд 1-2) I hope we’ll have a great
time together. To the end of the lesson you should be able to speak about all kinds of
shops and goods which you need in everyday life.

1. Phonetic warm-up
T: So, let’s start our work from the phonetic exercise. Listen to the rhyme and
repeat after me: (Слайд 3)
T: What do you need when you go to the shop?
(Pupils answer the question)
T: Before going shopping let's check your homework and repeat some words which
we have learnt.
2. Checking homework.
T: Tell me please, what was your home task for today?
Ps: We made the projects of our favorite shops and the shops of our dream.

3. Vocabulary practice
T: Look at the Shopping Word Cloud Art. Let’s choose such word as item and make

IV. The main part of the lesson
1. Brainstorming
T: Now, let's divide our class into four groups and start playing our game “Who is
faster?” I read the words, you must name a shop according to each group of words:
(Слайд 6)
1. Ham, bacon, sausage; a) the dairy
2. Cabbage, onion, banana, pear, b) jewelry
potato;
3. Milk, sour-cream, yoghurt, c) the butcher's
butter;
4. Fish, crab sticks, shrimps; d) the greengrocer's
5. sweets, cakes, cookies; e) fishmonger's
6. Gold chains, rings, necklace. f) confectionary
(Keys:1-c; 2-d; 3-a; 4-e; 5-f; 6-b.)
2. Grammar practice
T: Now, look at our Word Cloud Art again and let’s choose such word as selection.
Then do the next task: decide when to use much and when to use many. (Слайд 7)

3. The Quiz.
So, I have some questions for you. Please, give correct answers as quickly as you
can: (Слайд 8)
1) A person who buys a product and can choose between different goods. (Customer)
2) One of the sections in a large shop. (Department)
3) Something that has been sold at a lower price than normal. (Bargain)
4) A person who works in a store selling things to customers. (Shop-assistant)
5) A specially built covered area containing shops and restaurants which people
can walk between. (Shopping mall)
4. Warm-up
Let’s stand up and do such movements:
Touch your toes, Put your arms up high,
Run on the spot. Imagine you can touch the sky.
Stretch your arms Relax, sit down, close your eyes
And bend a lot. and count to ten.
5. Listening practice
1) Pre-listening activity:
T: Now, let’s talk about shopping in Britain. Do you know that the British, in the
words of Napoleon, is “a nation of shopkeepers”. They love to shop! It is their
number one leisure activity. (Слайд 9) London is a paradise for shoppers. There are
over 40,000 shops and 26 major street markets to choose from. Oxford Street,
London's busiest shopping street, is in the heart of the city's West End.

T: So, how do you think which is the largest department store in Europe?

Ps: Учні називають найвідоміші універмаги (Macys, John Lewis, Marks &
Spencer’s, etc.).
T: Such Department Stores as Marks & Spencer’s, Macys, John Lewis, Debenhams
and British Home Stores are very popular in London. You can see these stores at the
Smartboard. (Слайд 11) But “Harrods” is considered the largest department store in
Europe. It is located in Knightsbridge, London, the UK. Слайд 12).
2) Listening of the text:
Let’s watch a short film about «Harrods», a great place for shopping in London.

3) Post-listening activity:
T: Answer the questions: (Слайд 14)
1) Harrods has a big designer: …. (Name at least 3 famous brands)
2) Which food is made in Harrods kitchen?
3) How many restaurants are there?
4) How many floors and departments can you explore there?
5) Which is another famous feature of Harrods?

Let’s check up the sentences.
Keys: 1-Dolce&Gabbana, Prada, Louis Vuitton; 2-Desserts and meat pie; 3-27
restaurants; 4-7 floors and 330 departments; 5-The Egyptian Escalator.
6. Role-play game “Purchasing” – (Робота в групах)
T: So, we've got 4 groups! Each group gets a basket with 4 cards! (Addition A)
Name these goods and try to guess where we can buy such goods.
T: So, where can you buy a bar of soap, a tube of toothpaste, a shampoo or
any medicines?
1 group – At the Chemist’s

T: Ok, where can you buy a piece of cake, a loaf of bread, cookies or rolls?
2 group - At the Baker’s
T: And tell me please, where can you find such goods as a box of oranges, a basket of
apples, a bag of rice or tomatoes?
3 group - At the Greengrocer’s
T: And the last question, where can you buy magazines, newspapers, books or
copybooks?
4 group - At the Newsagents
T: Great job! Your answers are excellent! Now, let`s imagine that you are in one of
these shops. One pupil is a customer and another one is a shop-assistant. Take your
money and make your purchasing. (Addition B) Let’s act out your dialogues.

- Yes, please. I want this tube of toothpaste?
- Here you are. Anything else?

7. Reading and writing practice
T: Let’s revise all kinds of shops which we have learnt.

Read the questions and write the correct answers solving this crossword puzzle.

V. The End-of-the-lesson
1. Home assignment
Find new information about one of the most famous store or shopping center in
London and try to create your own Word Cloud Art using the link https://wordart.com/.
2. Reflection
T: So, our lesson is coming to the end. I want to see your feedback on this lesson.
Look at the blackboard. You can see a tree. Let’s decorate this tree with your
opinions on our lesson. (Слайд 16)

Активізувати лексичні одиниці теми; розвивати навички діалогічного мовлення, читання, аудіювання та письма; Освітня мета. Поглибити знання з теми «Магазини та покупки»; розширити кругозір учнів з даної теми. Формувати комунікативну і соціокультурну компетенції. Розвиваюча мета. Розвивати культуру спілкування у повсякденному житті, вміння працювати y групах та в парах; сприяти розвитку критичного мислення, креативності та когнітивної гнучкості. Виховна мета. Виховувати культуру спілкування y практичному використанні мови, формуючи в учнів уявлення про сучасний полікультурний світ. Тип уроку: комбінований Обладнання: Підручник, мультимедійне забезпечення: інтерактивна дошка та проектор, презентація Power Point, відеоматеріал “Harrods”, картки із завданнями для групової роботи та роботи в парах. The Procedure I. Introduction 1. Greeting T: Good morning, guys! Ps: Good morning, teacher! T: I’m glad to see you! How are you today? Ps: We are fine, thank you! 2. Aim T: Please, look at the first slide, read the rhyme and try to guess what are we going to talk about? (Pupils guess the theme)
  • 2. T: Yes, shops and shopping – it’s our theme. (Cлайд 1-2) I hope we’ll have a great time together. To the end of the lesson you should be able to speak about all kinds of shops and goods which you need in everyday life. II. Введення в іншомовну атмосферу 1. Brainstorming T: Now, let's divide our class into four groups and start playing our game “Who is faster?” I read the words, you must name a shop according to each group of words: (Слайд 6) 1. Ham, bacon, sausage; a) the dairy 2. Cabbage, onion, banana, pear, b) jewelry potato; 3. Milk, sour-cream, yoghurt, c) the butcher's butter; 4. Fish, crab sticks, shrimps; d) the greengrocer's 5. sweets, cakes, cookies; e) fishmonger's 6. Gold chains, rings, necklace. f) confectionary (Keys:1-c; 2-d; 3-a; 4-e; 5-f; 6-b.) 2. Grammar practice T: Now, look at our Word Cloud Art again and let’s choose such word as selection. Then do the next task: decide when to use much and when to use many. (Department) 3) Something that has been sold at a lower price than normal. (Bargain) 4) A person who works in a store selling things to customers. (Shop-assistant) 5) A specially built covered area containing shops and restaurants which people can walk between. (Shopping mall) 4. Warm-up Let’s stand up and do such movements: Touch your toes, Put your arms up high, Run on the spot. Imagine you can touch the sky. Stretch your arms Relax, sit down, close your eyes And bend a lot. and count to ten. 5. Listening practice 1) Pre-listening activity: T: Now, let’s talk about shopping in Britain. Do you know that the British, in the words of Napoleon, is “a nation of shopkeepers”. They love to shop! It is their number one leisure activity. (Слайд 9) London is a paradise for shoppers. There are over 40,000 shops and 26 major street markets to choose from. Oxford Street, London's busiest shopping street, is in the heart of the city's West End. (Слайд 10). T: So, how do you think which is the largest department store in Europe? 4
  • 5. Ps: Учні називають найвідоміші універмаги (Macys, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer’s, etc.). T: Such Department Stores as Marks & Spencer’s, Macys, John Lewis, Debenhams and British Home Stores are very popular in London. You can see these stores at the Smartboard. (Слайд 11) But “Harrods” is considered the largest department store in Europe. It is located in Knightsbridge, London, the UK. Слайд 12). 2) Listening of the text: Let’s watch a short film about «Harrods», a great place for shopping in London. (Слайд 13) 3) Post-listening activity: T: Answer the questions: (Слайд 14) 1) Harrods has a big designer: …. (Name at least 3 famous brands) 2) Which food is made in Harrods kitchen? 3) How many restaurants are there? 4) How many floors and departments can you explore there? 5) Which is another famous feature of Harrods? Role-play game “Purchasing” – (Робота в групах) T: So, we've got 4 groups! Each group gets a basket with 4 cards! (Addition A) Name these goods and try to guess where we can buy such goods. T: So, where can you buy a bar of soap, a tube of toothpaste, a shampoo or any medicines? 1 group – At the Chemist’s 5

T: Ok, where can you buy a piece of cake, a loaf of bread, cookies or rolls? 2 group - At the Baker’s T: And tell me please, where can you find such goods as a box of oranges, a basket of apples, a bag of rice or tomatoes? 3 group - At the Greengrocer’s T: And the last question, where can you buy magazines, newspapers, books or copybooks? 4 group - At the Newsagents T: Great job! Your answers are excellent! Now, let`s imagine that you are in one of these shops. One pupil is a customer and another one is a shop-assistant. Take your money and make your purchasing. (Addition B) Let’s act out your dialogues. (Інсценізація діалогів) At the Chemist’s: - Good morning! - Good morning! Can I help you? - Yes, please. I want this tube of toothpaste? - Here you are. Anything else? - Yes, I need a bar of soap, too. How much is it? - It costs15£. - Here you are. Thank you! - Have a nice day. 7. Reading and writing practice T: Let’s revise all kinds of shops which we have learnt. (Учні отримують завдання, в якому потрібно заповнити кросворд) Read the questions and write the correct answers solving this crossword puzzle.
