8. Dissecting the Prompt
• You all will become brilliant writers this year. I

• On the top of the poster paper provided, write
the following prompt:

faced. How would you solve this
problem?
9. How to Dissect the Prompt
• Circle the verbs in the prompt (this represents
what you, the writer, are supposed to do).
• Underline the noun you will write about.
• Under the prompt write five words that
describe your problem and how you would
solve it (only words- not sentences). I will
model this for you.
10. Create
• Now that you have dissected your prompt, you will
create at least a 5-8 sentence summary of your
answer to the prompt.
• You should have a strong introduction sentence and
concluding sentence.
• Use your 5 words to help you write the middle
supporting sentences.
