1. Reflective diary
Week 1- Research:
ThisweekIwas researchingwhatIcouldbase my projecton,I didthisby findingexistingproducts
and comparingthemto ideasthatI previouslyhadformyFMP. Thisworkedwell asithelpedme to
choose specifictechniquesandshotsthatI wouldlike touse formy project.The onlyproblemIhad
withthisisthat all my exampleswhere vastlydifferent toeachotherwhichmade itdifficultforme
to have ideasthatcouldmatch witheach otherformy project,butit alsogave me a wide range of
ideasincase I decidedtochange my original idea. Ialsodidaudience researchwhichhelpedme
figure outwhatwouldbe the bestage forthe genre trailerthatI wasgoingfor whichisa
psychological thriller.Thisalsohelpedme determinewhichgenderitwouldsuitmore,andwhich
ethnicity.One problemIhadwiththisisthat many gendersandethnicgroupslike manydifferent
thingsandone genderor ethnicgroupwill notall like the same filmgenre aseachother,soit was
harderto determine whichgenderandethnicgroupthatmy projectwouldbe basedat. I alsodidan
audience questionnaire togetmore researchaboutwhatgenre differentpeople like andwhattheir
favourite partsof certainfilmsare,andwhat theirleastfavourite partsare.Thishelpedme todecide
whatI could addto my projectand whatI shouldnotadd to myprojectbecause I had people’s
opinionsonwhattheyenjoyanddislikeaboutthe genre thatI am doing formy final project.Some
people’sanswerswere notimmenselyhelpful duringthe questionnaire andsome answerswere
remarkablylike otherpeoples.Thiswasnothelpful asIdidnothave a wide range of answersthatI
couldincorporate intomywork.
Week 2- Pre-Production:
Thisweek Istartedmy Pre-Production work, Ichose mylocationsof filming formyprojectIwrote
aboutwhat risksI couldhave and whatsolutionscouldsolve them,Ialsowrote aboutwhataudio
and lightingIwouldneedforlocationincase Ihad any troubles. Thishelpedme to planincase I
neededanyequipmentsuchaslightingandaudiorecordingequipment andincase I had anyrisks
whenfilmingsothatIcould stopfromhappening before Ibegintofilm. Ialsowrote aboutwhat
otherfacilitiesIwouldbe usingwhenitcomestoeditingmywork.Thishelpedme to planforwhere
I wouldbe editingsothatI didnot have to worryabout nothavinganywhere todoit. I wrote about
whatprops and costumesImightneedformy production.Thiswasuseful asithelped me decide
whatI may needduringmyproductionandwhere Imightget them.The problemwiththisisthat
some shopsmaynot have the props or costumesthatI need,ortheymay be overlyexpensive.Ithen
startedto create thingssuch as storyboards andshotlists,thishelpedme toplanouteach shotI was
goingto take and whatangle and whatlocationtheywouldbe.Thishelpedme becauseitmeant
that I wouldnotstruggle furtheronduringthe productionasI alreadyknew where mylocations
where andwhatI was goingto filmthere. The onlyproblemwith thisisthatwhenIstart to film, I
will change myideaof shotsthat I wouldlike andwhere Iwouldwanttofilmthem. Ithenbeganto
write abouthealthandsafetyissuesthatImay have duringproduction.Thishelpedasitmade me
cautiousof what issuesImayhave and how I couldsolve themoverall.
Week 3, 4, 5- Production:
Duringmy thirdweekIhave startedproductionformy FMP thisconsisted of me gainingsome
footage,audioandimagesformy trailerand advertisement.WhenfilmingIfilmedinvarious
locationswithdifferentpeople,Ialsodiddifferentshots ineachlocationtogive me a choice of what
footage looksbetterforwhenIcome to the pointof editingmytrailer. EachweekIhave filmed
2. differentthingsasIhave constantlythoughtof many piecesof footage thatIcouldfilm.Ibookedout
the studioto take some picturesthatI coulduse as advertisementandthatwouldclearlyrelate to
my trailer.Ialsousedthe studioto filmsome more piecesof audioformytrailerlike quotesor
soundsthat couldbe heardinthe backgroundof my trailer.Thiswasuseful asithelpedme togain
more footage formy project incase I didnot have enough topresentformyfinal piece,Itookmore
picturessothat I couldshow people how Icreatedthemandwhat theyrepresented astheywere
differenttorecentimagesthatI had taken. Unfortunately, Iwill have to gainmore footage formy
projectbutwithwhat I have collectedsofar(images) itshows whatmymainideaisand that I have
useddifferenttechniques andcolourschemesformyproject. Iwill have togain a lotmore indoor
footage andI will alsoneedtocollectalot more audio.Ihave foundbackgroundmusicfor mytrailer
whichfitsvery well withthe genre andstyle of whatIam goingfor. I will be addingmypicturesto
my evaluation andbe makingmagazines,double page spreads andposters formyadvertisementof
the trailer.
Week 6 and 7- Editing:
ThisweekIwas editingfootage formytrailer.Wheneditingmyfootage,Itriedtouse multiple
techniqueslike overlayingdifferentvideostomake themmerge intoone butplaywithdifferent
speedsandopacitiestomake themmove atvarioustimes.Also, whenIwaseditingbothweeksIand
to fix the coloursoneach piece of footage tomake themmatch as I filmedtheminvariousplacesat
separate times.Ihadto fix audioas well andaddit intothe piecesof footage thatI had edited,this
was difficultasI hadto match the audioat the specifictime thatwasplayingonthe footage,if itwas
a piece of speechthenIhad to make sure it wasin time withthe footage of someone sayingitasI
createdthe audioafterto make the trailersoundbetter.Onmy seventhweekof myFMP,I was
editingmyimagesforthe advertisementof mytrailer.Thisconsistedof me gatheringsimilarimages
together,overlappingthe imagesandchangingthe opacityandbrightnessof eachone to make the
merge together.Withthe imagesIwasediting,Iwastryingto make it lookas if somethingwas
tryingto getto the mainperson,butalsomake it looklike noone isthere.Whenitcame to editing
bothmy footage andimagesitwas quite difficultasIwouldconstantlylose mywork, orthe images
wouldnotturn outright because of the toolsI wastryingto use to make the image thatI wanted,
otherthan itwentquite well asthe imagesturnedoutthe wayI wantedto andI was alsoable to
complete mytrailerwiththe varioustechniquesshotsandaudiothatI usedthroughoutit.
Week 8 and 9- Evaluation:
On mylast twoweeksof myFMP, I was doingmyevaluationforall the workthatI have done
throughoutthe nine weeks.Iwrote abouteachpiece of workthatI did andwhat my strengthsand
weaknessesforeachpart was.I foundthisrelativelyeasyasIcouldlookback at my PowerPointsand
recentworkto answerthe questionsthatwere given.Italsoaskedme how Icouldimprove and
whatI wouldimprove withmywork,thiswashelpful as ithelpedme tosee how Icouldimprove on
my workinthe future andwhatI can dofor that to happen.Ialsogot feedbackfromotherpeople
on the workthat I had created,afterI haddone that, I gave my opiniononthe feedbackthatIgot, I
wrote whatI agreedon and disagreedwith.IfoundthisdifficultasIwas unable toagree withsome
of the commentsIreceivedasI alreadyknew whatimprovementsIneededtohave forall the pieces
of mywork.I alsofoundsome aspectsof the evaluationgoodasit showedme whatotherpeople
thoughtI coulddo betterwhichwill helpme withfuture productsthatIwill make.Whenitcame to
some topicslike time management,Ifoundthatquite easytotalkaboutas I did struggle asI needed
more time to make my productlookitsbestbut as I didn’thave enoughtime,Iwasunable tomake
it lookitsbestand exactlyhowIwanteditto be.Otherthan that,I foundthe evaluationrelatively
3. easyto do and waseasyto talkabout as I knew whatimprovementsneededtobe made withmy
workfor future references.
