2. (463) 30 DAYS OF HELL FITNESS CHALLENGE - Full Documentary #TNDO -
YouTube
This documentary is about the progression that to friends gain when going to the
gym. I am looking at this video as I am wanting to make a video about
progression and goals, and trying to aim for them and beat them, but to also
make yourself stronger physically and mentally. It also talks about having a plan
and trying to stick to a plan, but also talks about how that can be difficult, it talks
about strengths and weaknesses and how some days can be harder than others,
but you just have to put your mind towards it and push yourself, because in the
end if you reach your goal and keep striding forward you will be pleased with
yourself and be more positive with yourself mentally and physically. The gym and
working on yourself has a good impact on your mental health, as physical activity
gives off âfeel goodâ hormones which make you happier and also sometime helps
you too see your improvements in many different ways. This documentary also
talks about how you can feel really down before going to the gym or working out,
and not have the motivation to do it, but when you start trying and working hard,
thatâs when you start to feel happier and more positive about yourself, and it
pushes you to want to do more, but it also lets you know that you have worked
hard, because you can feel it and also because your hormones are letting you
know by making you happier towards the end and throughout. It is very
rewarding and It also makes you feel very accomplished with what you have
achieved, which is why it is very common for people to either work out or do
physical activities.

3. (463) Insane 4 month body transformation (Heath
Hussar) - YouTube
This documentary talks about how the guy isnât happy with himself
and how he looks, and he wants to try really hard to look better for
himself because he wants his mental health to be better, and he
believes that if he works hard on himself physically, then it will help
him mentally, and it will help him see himself in a different light and
he will enjoy being himself even more. This documentary compares
how he was at the beginning and what he looks like at the end of his
transformation, how we physically changed, and the effects it had on
his mental health and how it improved throughout. It shows the good
and bad stages of what he has to go through to reach his dream body
goal. This is similar to what I would like to create as I know a lot of
people who feel the same as the man in the documentary, and arenât
happy with them selves, either it is because of the way they see
themselves, or how they think about themselves, and how it has a
negative effect on their mental health, but being physical and active
boosts their confidence and makes them happier about themselves
and they no longer have intrusive thoughts.

everyday, how far he travels, how long it takes, what he
does while travelling, he also talks about what he does

5. Britain's Steroid Epidemic | Men's Health UK -
YouTube
This documentary talks about the bad effects of the
gym and working out. Many people do different things,
use different things, and have different methods to
help them at the gym and to get themselves prepared,
but this documentary talks about the use of steroids at
the gym and the effects it can have. In many ways it
can help a person when they are in need, but in other
ways it is bad because it can have damaging effects to
your physical and mental health, and can also lead to
death if done to often, or having a high dosage all at
once, and also if your body is not physically prepared
to take it.

6. POTENTIAL APPROACHES
A potential approach I have towards this project is to
gain pieces of footage of my friends' workouts and edit
the footage and add the audio from the interviews over
the top of the footage, and swap between the interview
and the footage, while also having a different audio
playing over the background of the beginning and the
end of my piece of work (Music). I will also get footage of
their workouts where they may be struggling and they
are at their lowest, and how they build up the motivation
to carry on and keep trying harder and getting stronger
both mentally and physically, but also how it can have a
positive effect on your mental wellbeing, but also the
way you view yourself. I will be filming the interviews
outside of the gym, either at mine or my casts house, so
that it will be quiet, and we will be able to focus the
microphone better on what they are saying, instead of
7. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES TO
USE
Some potential techniques I could use for this project
could, be a range of camera angles such as panning
upwards and downwards on my cast while they are
working out. I will also use a range of transitions with my
footage between the shots and the interview, while
including graphics such as text for the interview
questions and the introduction for my factual project. I
will use different camera shots either being close ups,
medium shots and long shots. I will also change each
piece of footage with the beat of the music I will be using
to make it upbeat, quick and eye catching.
8. CONVENTIONS OF YOUR
CHOSEN FORMAT/GENRE
YOU ARE WORKING TO
The conventions I am working towards are to make the
documentary look motivational, enjoyable and hard
working. I will do this by getting certain shots that are
used in existing gym documentary's/advertisements, for
example shots of where a person is really struggling to
do their reps and gets the motivation to keep pushing. I
will also use motivational music that will fit well with my
footage and the genre of my product.
10. SUMMARY
â˘I could expand on this project and idea and use it to
create a larger project for my FMP at the end of the year.
â˘I could create more documentaries about preferred
subjects that myself and others enjoy.
â˘I will have access to record in all areas of the gym when I
need to as I know workers there.
â˘I can book out rooms to record in if the gym is to busy
and loud to work in.
â˘I can record interviews in a quiet area where I will gain
good audio and footage for the whole project.
11. SUMMARY
â˘The rooms I would like to book out and record in may
already be being used for classes or other people.
â˘It may be very loud in the gym due to the equipment and
people there so the audio may come out bad.
â˘It may be very busy so we won't be able to record much
as other people may be on the equipment we are wanting
to use.
â˘Other people may get in our shots due to it being busy
or using equipment near us.
â˘They may only allow us to film when it is quiet, so we
donât get in other people's way.
12. FINAL IDEA â RATIONALE
Why this idea? Why this format? What skills do you have
that support this and what are you looking forward to
exploring more.
I have chosen this idea as I am very passionate about the
gym and the effects it can have on your mental and
physical health. I have chosen this format as I enjoy
filming and I think a documentary would be a great way
to help improve my skills towards filming, but also
editing as this project will be larger than ones I have
created before. I have a range of camera skills that I have
learnt through other projects that well help me to create
this project successfully, and I also look forward to
explore interviews and creating a documentary which I
have never done before.
13. FINAL IDEA â CREATIVE
CONCEPT
What do you want to make, reference the look, style and
type of project. This could be a synopsis of the piece and
some visual reference points. Reference content and the
themes you are wanting to explore and resources that
might help you to achieve your aims.
I want to create a documentary that uses a range of
colour's, music, and places to make it look fun and
creative using techniques and styles I am wanting to use
throughout the video. I want it to be appealing towards a
younger audience, and that is why I will be making it a
lot more colourful and upbeat with the music and
footage.
15. TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
Progression of yourself when at the gym, and the stages
you go through when trying to reach your goals. The
struggles you have to go through and concur to get to
the next stages, and to be able to beat your limit and
make new ones. It will walk about the different workouts
that are done at the gym which would be legs, arms, abs,
etc. it would focus on legs as that is what I personally
focus on when at the gym. It would show footage of me
and my friend working at the gym, it will show our
strengths, weaknesses, before and after and it will also
have interviews with them to show why they go to the
gym, why it is important to them, and what they want out
of it. It will discuss what we all want out of the gym and
what made us want to start going, when we started going
and if we do anything else other than the gym.
16. EQUIPMENT
â˘Camera (possibly two cameras)
â˘Tripod (possibly two for both cameras)
â˘Audio recorder
â˘Microphone to attach to audio recorder
â˘I will get all this equipment either from college or use
some equipment that I own at home.
17. FACILITIES
I will be editing some of my audio at home, and some at
college, and I will also be editing all my footage at college
on the computers that have the software that I will be
needing. If I can't get it done in these places then I will
find places where I live, such as a library to continue
editing my product.
18. PERSONNEL
I will be using two of my closest friend as cast and crew
as we will take it in turns to record each other for both
footage and interviews, while taking it in turns I will have
one helping me with the footage and audio while the
other one will be being recorded. If I need more help, I
have other friends that are willing to help me record if
someone is unable to.

Defining the âmise-en-sceneâ
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you
to approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that
have inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:

21. Concept Board Bright neon colours, upbeat
music, quick and short
shots, small intervals of
speech at some points of the
video, and then straight to
the interview.
22. CONCEPT BOARD
DISCUSSION/EXPLANATION
For my concept board I have used a range of bright and
eye catching colour's throughout all of them, where I am
planning on recording has a use of led lights around the
whole location which I would like to incorporate into my
footage when recording my cast members. This will be
eye catching towards my target audience as they are
young adults, and in studies it is shown that young
adults are more appealed by bright colour's, hence why I
will be filming in this location.
23. SHOT LIST - VIDEO
I will be using multiple different shots of my cast working
out on different equipment which will be used for the
majority of my project, along with both of their
interviews. I will be filming their workouts in different
areas of the gym on different types of equipment. I will be
filming the interviews with two cameras from different
angles in the changing room where it will be quiet and
restricted so not many people will be in there when
filming so we wont get distracted or need to stop filming.
25. LOCATIONS
Coach Gym, Hornbeam Park, Harrogate
â˘Plenty of equipment to shoot footage on, but some of it
could be in the way and could easily be a hazard for
someone to trip over and injure themselves.
â˘Depending on what days and at what time we will be
filming, it may be either really busy or really quiet, but we
will try and go at times that are quiet so that we arenât in
other peoples way.
PowerXfitness, Swinton, Mexborough
â˘It is quite far away which means the cost would be very high
for all the cast and crew members
â˘This gym has more space and better lighting, but its
aesthetic and colours donât fit with my projects plan, but it
is also a good plan B if things donât go well.
26. RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Cause Actions
Someone may get
injured when
filming.
Unable to get
footage and will
have to suit to
them to make
sure they are ok.
Make sure there
are no hazards
around to hurt
anyone so that
no one gets
injured
Equipment may
get damaged
when filming
Will have to pay
for new
equipment.
Make sure all
equipment is in a
safe environment
where it wont get
broken or
damaged.
Eye strain and
back ache when
editing.
Can cause
serious damage
and injuries.
Sit up straight
and take time
away from the
screen to rest
27. CONTINGENCY PLAN
Technical location Personnel Organizational
Areas
⢠We may run out of
batteries or they may
die while we are gaining
footage, we can resolve
this by bringing a
charger or extra
batteries.
⢠We may lose equipment
on set at our locations.
Make sure we keep an
eye on all equipment or
keep it in a safe area
where it cant be taken.
⢠We may trip over or
damage the equipment.
Make sure it is in an
area where it is safe and
able to be seen where
no one can trip or get
in the way of it.
⢠It may be busy when
we are filming. Make
sure to check the
times and days when
we are going so we
can make sure to pick
a quiet time where it
wont be busy.
⢠It may be closed. Find
other gyms where we
are able to film
footage, or pick
something else to
film, such as
interviews.
⢠They may not let us
film. Ask for
permission before
going to make sure it
is ok to film, and find
other locations in
case.
⢠Some cast may be ill or
not be able to show up.
Check what days
certain people are
available and work
around them.
⢠They may cancel and
not want to contribute.
Make sure to have back
up cast in case we need
them if someone drops
out.
⢠They may be injured
when it comes to
filming. Make sure the
other cast member is
free to fill in so that we
can get footage of
them.
⢠Plan what days
everyone can do to
make sure everyone is
available to
contribute.
⢠Make sure we have a
possible way of
getting to the location
so that we are able to
film enough footage.
⢠Make sure all
equipment is booked
out and ready to use
for when production
starts.
28. SCHEDULE
I will be trying to gain all of my footage in less than a week,
which means I will be going to my location of filming almost
everyday. This means I will have plenty of time to edit and
evaluate my work, and go back and check through everything
to make sure it is all up to good standards. If I do need extra
time to gain more footage I can take time out of both my
editing and evaluation periods if needed, but I have set my self
a reasonable amount of time for each stage of my production,
giving me enough time for each section.
4 hours of filming both footage and interviews
3 hours of editing all of my footage
3 hours of evaluation and any extra work that needs finishing
off
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
I will be going
to my location
at 4:30 and I
will stay there
for
approximately
1.5- 2 hours
gaining
footage to use
throughout
my factual
piece of work.
On Tuesday I will be
gaining footage from
my interviewees,
asking them questions
about why they go to
the gym, what their
goals are, how it
effects their mental
health, and if they
would recommend it
and why. This should
take 30mins â 1 hour.
On Wednesday I
will be bringing in
the footage that I
have gained into
college, and
editing the
footage I have
produced. Later I
will be gaining
more footage
which should take
an hour to do.
I will be gaining
audio to use in the
background of my
product, but also
editing the other
footage I had
gained from the
day before and
trying to piece all
my footage
together.
I will also be editing
more on Friday. But I
may also gain some
other footage, or
create some graphics
to be used
throughout my
project, I may also
create some images
to be used as either
thumbnails, or extra
pieces of production.
Editor's Notes
Context affects what is produced, how it is produced and who can produce it.
Technology is part of the context. Early fanzines were hand made because there was no InDesign or Photoshop. Web-series simply didnât existing because the web didnât exist.
People who donât have access to jobs in mainstream media, to become journalists or editors, might produce work independently of that system.
People who donât see themselves or their interests being represented in main stream media, might produce something that represents them or their social group.
The political situation will influence what someone decides to make. The cultural situation will influence what people make.
Every media text is a product of its environment, just like people.
Style: The way in which something is said, done, expressed, or performed. The combination of distinctive features of literary or artistic expression, execution, or performanceÂ
characterizing a particular person, group, school, or era.
For example, a podcast could be two people talking, it could be interviews and a voice over, it could just be a recording of a teaching session⌠how it is done, is the style.

How are these things being made? What methods are being used? Find out and also use your own experience. For example, is a fanzine being hand written or word processed? How do people making a web series set up their shooting spaces? The more you can find out about technique, the more you can get ideas for your own work.
