2. Age – Target Market
The main amount of people who answered my survey about music
magazines were aged between 14 and 16 with a few people 17+.
This means I would aim my magazine for teenagers and over so I
would chose artists to write about what create music that isn’t for
young people. This also means my target audience is more mature so
the colours would be more mature.
3. Music Genre
• The main genre chosen by 40% of my
target market was pop. Followed by a
close second of 30% Indie. So I have
chosen to create a magazine for indie
pop artist as this suits the main amount
of people who would be likely to buy my
magazine.
4. Type of artists
• A mixture of both established and up and
coming artist was the main choice of what
the target audience would like to see on
the front cover of a music magazine. I have
decided I will use a mixture of the both as I
can use models of my own and create a
story and then use pre-existing artists to
add to it and attract further customers.
5. Story Type
• 52% of people said they would like to read
a story about gossip. 37% of people said
they would like to read about up and
coming tour and music stories, the same
amount of people said interviews was a
good thing they would read about. I will
write a mixture of up and coming tours in
an interview with a tour review in there a
bit as this is more formal for an older
audience rather than gossip, even though
this was the main response, I will mix the
next two together.
6. Freebies
• When asked what they would like
additionally in a magazine the
main feedback said
concert/festival tickets. I will
probable do a competition on the
front cover to give them a chance
to win them as this is more
realistic then giving away tickets
without them entering a
competition.
7. Price
• When asked how much they would
be willing to pay for a music
magazine, the main chunk of people
said between £2 and £2.99. I will
price it between these numbers as I
don’t want to make it too expensive
and no one buys it, however I don’t
want to make it look cheap by
selling it for a really low price.
8. Colour Scheme
• The main colour scheme
reviews said was black and gold,
33% selected that. However this
may be hard to chose as it
doesn’t stand out as much and
could be hard to find a good
gold colour. I am more likely to
chose Black and Red as 22%
chose this and it will stand out
to a lot of audience.
9. Artists
• A lot of the responses said they
preferred Ed Sheeran, Arctic
Monkeys and The 1975. These
are all indie pop artists so
featuring them in my magazine
would give it star factors and
more people would be attracted
to it.
10. Social Media
• The main social media chosen by
my target audience was twitter
and facebook. I will use a social
media for different platforms and
to attract more people. I will not
use tumlbr as very little people
chose this as an option.
