1. What kind of media institutions might distribute your product and why?
Publishing house
Bauer Media Group is a European-based media company, headquartered in Hamburg,
Germany that manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and
50 radio and TV stations around the world. The portfolio includes print shops, postal,
distribution and marketing services. This kind of media service would be suitable for my
magazine as it can be easily distributed to paying customers who may buy one offs or
subscription holders. One of the biggest publishers in Europe, this would easily help the
popularity of the magazine as well as it would reach out to more places, appealing to more
fans.
Another large publishing house is “Hearst”. The Hearst corporation is one of the largest
diversified communications companies in the world. Its major ownership interests include 15
daily and 36 weekly newspapers and more than 300 magazines worldwide. If it was left down
to a choice, the better company to use would be Hearst as they are larger and are based more
around the world. They can introduce the magazine to a wider range of fans as they publish in
more areas than Bauer. They also have an extremely large population of customers in
America increasing the amount of people likely to buy the magazine.
EZINE
An EZINE is practically an online magazine as the E stands for electronic. They can also be
known as webzines. One of the most popular publishers for EZINES is Joomag as 374,895
publishers are used. Another largely populer publisher are Issuu.com as they have a total of
around 80 million readers worldwide. A benefit for using these methods of publishing would
be that it would reach out to more of the younger demographic as well as they are more likely
to be using online sources as they are more likely to use advancing technology to their
advantage. As my magazine is generally aimed towards all age groups it would have to be
published in other media forms but by publishing it in an EZINE form, it is more likely for
younger readers to download it. It would however, also isolate the older generation as
statistaclly, more and moer youths use EZINES than adults and elderly.
Smartphone apps
A bit like an EZINE, smartphone apps also publish magazines on a digital platform.
Presspadapp make it easier for people to publish their own magazines on appstores like apple,
amazon and google play. Aquafadas also follows this format with 15 million users with more
every day. Also like the EZINE, the main audience targeted in an app magazine would be a
younger age group.
The traditional publishing house Bauer Media will help me reach my proposed target
audience as they are a well-known publishing house. That has been attracting customers since
1875. They will be attracting my target audience as Teenagers still like to physically hold a
magazine in their hands, than to just see it via a computer or phone screen. As having the
magazine in your hands allows you to take the poster that can come with the magazine but
due to Ezine’s more people are just finding it convenient to just have the magazine on an
electronic device. As Josh Halliday wrote on the guardian newspaper: ‘Copies sold on Apple
iPads and other tablets are, of course, where the growth is – but those editions still account
for a fraction of overall sales and still fail to offset the decline in print. Digital sales of Vogue,
for example, have grown by 3,898 copies since the second half of 2012 (3.78% of its total
circulation) against a fall of 10,349 print copies at £3.99 apiece’ . the quote proves that print

have my product distributed via the Bauer Media Group.
