• It is organized by Periods (left to right) and
Groups/Families (top to bottom).
4. Organization
All the rows in a period go left to right. As
elements progress through a period, they
gain protons.
The columns in a group go from top to
bottom. The elements in a group all exhibit
similar chemical characteristics.
