Designing Didactic Units
Given the atypical situation we are going through, you will be asked to plan THREE whole didactic
units - one in August, another one in September, and the last one in October. You will base each
unit on a different topic from this list:

For this Assignment I worked on Google slide. I had developed the Didactic Unit throughout the
presentation. The Unit is ready to be presented to online classes by zoom. I had also inserted on
the corresponding slides the audios for the listening activities, the links for the readings, further
practice and game. I had to record the audios myself since the activities were created by me. I
also created a game on Kahoot. Accommodations for students with special needs are also
specified in the presentation. All apps used were checked and tested.

In turns, you will choose one topic which will be assigned to you only, and your tutor will then
assign the level and the age group your didactic unit should be aimed at. Each didactic unit is
meant to be developed during a month, sending or sharing activities to students on a weekly
basis.
The planning of the didactic unit will consider the different sections in the lesson plan template,
but you will now expand on how you would teach this topic online, with one synchronous meeting
of about 40 minutes, activities and tasks to do on their one and collaboratively with a classmate,
asynchronous exposure to the target language, and exploration of the topic in the target language
on the part of the learners. You should also explain how learners will use the L2 to communicate,
and how they will share their productions.
There will be some mandatory elements you will have to include in your plan:

⢠Differentiation of contents / activities / resources so as to cater for the needs of SEN
students
⢠Reflections on interculturality
⢠Skills integration
⢠Authentic materials
⢠Customized games
⢠Tasks to promote creativity and collaborative work
You must also consider the pedagogical integration of webtools. For example, you may create a
video to introduce the topic, and create a visual presentation on Genially, you may ask students
to share their productions on a Padlet, or you may ask students to record their comments on a
Voicethread. These are just a few examples of the pedagogical integration of technology. In each
case, you will explain the aims of the activity or the use of the tool, and the rationale behind your
choice.
As for the materials, you may combine your own creations with other materials available online,
and design all the different components of this didactic unit as if you were actually teaching these
classes. For example, if you say that you will introduce the unit with a visual presentation on
Google Slides, you will have to create it and include the link in the planning.
