MAIN TASK: MY MAGAZINE PROPOSAL Why?
Working
title:
Poptastic The reason why the name of the
magazine is called ‘Poptastic’ is
because my target audience
preferred this name of the
magazine when I conducted my
questionnaire to gain information
about my target audience.
Genre: Pop The target audience that I am
aiming to sell my magazine too
listen to popular music. This is
the most dominant.
Target
Audience:
10-21 The pop genre targets the
mainstreamers and aspirer
psychographic categories. the
socio-economic categories
targeted are C2, D and E
Price: £2.99 The price of the magazine reflects
the competitive prices of pop
magazines in the real world.
Convergence
:
Website,Twitter, Instagram These are the most used social
media platforms used amongst
my target audience.
Feedback
from primary
research will
act upon
People wanted to see mainstream
artists in the magazine. My target
audience also wanted to see puff
for concert tickets and quizzes
therefore this will be included in
the magazine.
REPRESENTATION: Why?
Choice of
model on front
cover:
Francis Boakye
This will challenge the
hegemonic representation of
white cover artists that are seen
on the cover of Pop magazines.
However I have conformed to the
hegemonic representation of age
because the cover artist will be a
young person to reflect the
young readership of mainstream
pop magazines who are typically
the target audience of the genre.
PHOTO-SHOOT FRONT COVER: Why?
Location: Studio with white backdrop This is where most photos are
taken of music artists on the
cover of Pop magazines. This will
allow me to edit the background
of the images in the construction
stages of the magazine.
Furthermore, I will be using lights
to create high key lighting which
has connotations of warmth and
this will make my images look
more vibrant.
Props: Sunglasses The use of the sunglasses will
reflect upon the monthly release
of the magazine. The sunglasses
will portray the male cover artist
as cool and stylish.
Costume: White T-shirt, Jeans, Bomber
jacket
The costume encodes the
youthful representation is
necessary for targeting a young
demographic.
Shots:
Different
angles?
Medium shots and Close up
shots
This will help draw attention to
the model’s facial features and
expressions which are typically
verydramatic and eye catching
for the target audience.
Gestures/Body
language:
Different
poses?
Smiling, winking, direct mode of
address
My model will make a direct
mode of address because is
more engaging for the reader of
the magazine. This makes my
model look confident and friendly
which is a common
representation of music artists in
Pop magazines. Smiling has
connotations of happiness and
joy and would appeal to the age
bracket of 10-20 year olds.
