1.1 Welcome and follow up on meal time (N1 and

Benjamin Lim warmly welcomed the teachers to the staff
meeting and went through the agenda for the day’s staff
meeting.
Teacher Lina mentioned that some children were not eating
well during tea break and both Joelin Lee and Teacher Leizl
agreed as well and mentioned that it was the wheat used
that the children dislike.
Benjamin Lim asked if there were alternatives to solve the
issue (Suggestions).
Teacher Lina suggested providing cake or bread. Benjamin
Lim said it was a good suggestion but the menu should be
planned according to healthy guidelines such as the healthy
plate. Benjamin Lim suggested using whole-grain bread.
Teacher Leizl suggested introducing to the children slowly
and gradually by providing them bit by bit until they are
familiar with it. Teacher Lina suggested that this can be
done so by having one side as white bread while the other

side as whole grain bread. Everyone agreed to the
suggestion.
1.2 Ordering of Resources
Benjamin Lim asked about the progress of ordering
resources before the new term starts. Joelin Lee mentioned
ordering earlier; about 2 months earlier. However, Teacher
Leizl said that it was too early to do so, as certain
administrative issues has to be confirmed beforehand.
Teacher Lina mentioned that processing takes time, about a
month time, with Teacher Leizl adding on that the teachers
would have to check against their lessons and theme.

2. Parent Workshop Joelin Lee
2.1 Purpose of meeting:
Joelin Lee warmly take over the time from Benjamin Lim
to talk about the purpose of workshop.
Joelin Lee raised the issue that some children are picky
over certain food. The purpose of having the workshop is to
create awareness with parents for health eating habits for
children.
2.2 Content:
Joelin Lee asked for some suggestions for the possible
content we can have for the workshop. She suggested
PowerPoint slides to start off.
Teacher Leizl recommended the change in menus or the
way we present the food to children. She suggested that the
food can be more presentable. She also suggested that
parents should be encouraged by informing them the
benefits of healthy food and the nutrition that children need.
Teacher Lina also raised the options of the alternatives
parents or teachers can have if children do not eat certain
food.
A unanimous consensus was reached for the suggestions
made by Teacher Leizl and Teacher Lina to have in the
PowerPoint slides.
Teacher Leizl offered to do a rough draft of the PowerPoint
slides and will show it during the next meeting.
Teacher Lina suggested that since the workshop is about
creating awareness and the content should be accurate, a
professional speaker should be invited.
A murmur of agreement was heard however Joelin Lee
asked what kind of speaker to invite. Teacher Lina
suggested the health promotion board (HPB) people.
Everyone seems to be indecisive about this. Joelin Lee
appointed Teacher Lina to look for more information about
the speaker before coming to a conclusion. She said for

Teacher Lina to provide some information by the next

of food and presentations. Examples like “You should eat
carrots? Why? Benefit for it?”
Kang Jia En was appointed to look for possible videos and
give recommendations by next meeting. Kang Jia En 21/09/17
2.3 Kahoot:
Joelin Lee asked what else could be fun and interesting to
put in as well.
Kang Jia En further suggested that Kahoot is a good choice.
It will be a good short quiz that can know what the parents
have understood from the sharing.
Teacher Lina and Teacher Leizl nodded to the idea and
Joelin Lee asked what number of questions will be suitable
for the workshop.
Kang Jia En suggested five questions will do. Everyone
agreed. Kang Jia En offered to do the Kahoot. However it
can only be done after receiving the content of the
PowerPoint slides. She said she will try to do finish it 3
days after receiving the PowerPoint slides (21/09/17).

2.4 Hands-on:
Teacher Leizl mentioned that the school should work with
parents like parent-teacher partnership.
She offered hands-on activity to be conducted during the
workshop.
Kang Jia En showed a picture that she came about saying
the activity can be food-making with the parents.
The presentation of the food is nice and Teacher Lina
quickly agreed to this idea. She recommended that the
centre should use the picture Kang Jia En showed for the
workshop.
The picture is of a plate of pasta with two meatballs on it
that have faces. There is also apples that were being made
into race cars. Everyone came to a consensus on this idea.

2.5 Goodie bags :
Kang Jia En mentioned that it would be nice for parents to
have something to bring home such as a goodie bag. She
asked for suggestions for items to include.
Joelin Lee suggested apples since it is a workshop on
healthy eating habits.
Teacher Leizl suggested that we could include fruit and
vegetables stickers and a board for children to stick them on
when they eat healthy food. She mentioned that this could
help track what food children are eating at home. Children
could also bring it to school and do a show-and-tell session
in class.
Benjamin Lim suggested that we could include pamphlets
from Health Promotion Board for parents to learn more
information about nutrition and healthy eating habits.
The items in the goodie bags are confirmed to be:
Apples
Fruit and vegetable stickers & game board
Pamphlets form HPB

venue the workshop should be.
Teacher Lina suggested a Saturday as it is more convenient
for teachers.

be more free during the weekends.
Teacher Leizl suggested that the workshop should be from
9.30am to 11am. All participants agreed to the timing of the
workshop.
It was agreed that the workshop will be on a Saturday, from
9.30am to 11am.

children on that day. The venue was confirmed to be in the
K1 class.

2.7 Participants:
Kang Jia En suggested that the workshop should only be for
the parents of K1 and K2 children as it is very hard for
younger children to do hands-on activities with the parents.
She also voiced out that the venue would not be able to
accommodate too many parents, and the number of
participants should be limited.
Teacher Lina suggested 20 parents. Benjamin Lim
commented that it might be too many and suggested
inviting about 10-12 parents. Everybody agreed with him.
Kang Jia En suggested that to limit the number of parents,
we should only invite parents from one class.
Teacher Lina suggested K2 class, and everybody agreed.

3.1 First Aid Box:
Kang Jia En raised the issue that the first aid box include
items such as antiseptic cream and gauze pads that expired
in July 2017. The items were last checked in May 2017,
and nobody have checked it in the past months. She voiced
out that we would need a long term solution to this
problem.
Teacher Lina mentioned that assigning a teacher to check
on the items and remembering the most recent expiry date
would improve the situation. She also mentioned that the
teacher in charge, Joelin Lee, should be buying the items.
Teacher Leizl mentioned that we could remind the teacher
in charge to check on it.
Teacher Lina then commented that this is overlooked as the
assistant teacher in charge recently resigned. She suggested
finding another person to assist. Benjamin Lim was
appointed to assist Joelin Lee.
The items in the first aid boxes are to be replaced and first
aid boxes are to be checked more regularly.

7. 7
Teacher Leizl said that the K2 classroom feels hot even
when the temperature is set at 18°C. She also brought up
the fact that the K1 classroom feels cold because the air
conditioner is recently serviced.
Kang Jia En suggested that the air conditioners should be
checked and serviced more regularly.
Benjamin Lim raised the issue of the fans being on while
the air conditioners are on.
Teacher Leizl said that the air conditioners would not be
cold when the fan is not on.
Joelin Lee commented that having the temperature set
below 24°C would not be in line with the guidelines for a
conducive learning environment.
Kang Jia En mentioned that she will contact the contractor
and ask them to do a thorough check on the air conditioners
in the centre. She also recommended that the teachers can
switch on the fans, but have to switch it off when it starts to
get colder.
