1. Textual Analysis of Poster for Ocean’s Eleven
There is a clear importance of characters coming through to the audience as we see them lined
up behind each other, this seems to suggestthat for instance in this case, George Clooney is the
most importantcharacter and it is also shown in the top left corner wherethe names are listed
above each other, the order isn’t the exact same but GeorgeClooney comes first, thereforewe
get the idea that he is the leader of the group and is also the most significant character.
In terms of the theme
on the poster we
clearly see a repetition
of dominant colours
which tend to be,
black, white and red.
The texts in colour
white are a lot more
appealing to the eye
therefore the viewer
will most likely look at
them firstto see the
title of the movie, the
name of character
played in the film also
the “Place your bets.”
Text at the bottom
which seems to be
suggesting that there is
a major risk in the plot
of the film
The mixture of the
colours red and black
seems to be suggesting
to me that the film will
feature elements of
action and danger in
terms of what the
characters will be facing.
The poster also
seems to be
suggesting that there
will be elements of
comedy, as welook
at the second
character behind
George Clooney and
we see a slight sign
of smirk on his face.
The title of the film is bold and white and a
much larger font in terms of sizetherefore
this makes it stand out next to the colours
black and red which come across as very
dark compared to the bright white title.
Pitch black background
seems to suggestsome
sortof mystery.
In addition to the
importance of
characters there
seems to be high key
lighting on Brad Pitt’s
character, second in
line which also
suggests importance
as it draws the eye to
the character.
