1. We Aimed to present our character as a
typical teenager which means he had to act
like one. A stereotypical teenager as not
quite reached maturity and usually doesn’t
think about the consequences of their
actions and tends to live in the moment.
2. This was presented in ‘Soft’ During the scene where the young boy was shown
to retaliate to the other boys who were terrorising the neighbourhood
particularly focusing on their property. The main character exited his house with
a baseball bat and proceeded to hit the ‘chavs’ until the main perpetrator was on
the ground bleeding while the rest of the group had fled. This moment of
anger shows the characters spare of the moment thinking in the situation. Not
considering how the situation may have played out otherwise as he could have
just called the police.
3. The main character also proceeded to stamp on the perpetrators head even
after he was already down on the ground. This also shows the nature of
teenagers and how their emotions can get the better of them as the boy was
clearly unaware of how much damage he could have done to the boy which
could have got him in a lot of trouble. His father was shown to stand in the
background watching in shock as there was clearly no way of stopping him
during this rampage.
4. When comparing this scene to our film and the way our
character is presented is very similar. The young boys in each
scenario are still innocent minors at the end of the day but
their actions show their immaturity. In our case our film
shows more of the consequences of certain actions
particularly during the interview scenes where our main
character is made to face up to what he has done.
5. We planned to maintain this innocence so the audience are
able to relate to our character and think about how they would
feel and how scary it would be sitting in front of an official
investigator and being asked questions while it was being tape
recorded. The room is very darkly lit with what appears to be a
single spotlight which presents the scary atmosphere as
nothing else in the room is visible.
6. The shots we used during this scene present these ideas. We included a
close up of the boys fidgeting hand and close up shots showing him
looking around the room unable to make eye contact with the
investigator or even answer his questions with a straight answer. This
makes it clear to the audience that he is just a boy of 17 which is also
our target audience making his obvious nerves very relatable.
