2. Introduction
As I chose to produce a regional newspaper for a small, specific area it is
important to be able to effectively advertise and reach out to the target
demographics in order to draw in attention to my newspaper. I based my
newspaper on the topic of terrorism as it is a very big subject in news and
media outlets in recent months it would likely take a lot of people's interests as it
is a very serious and moving topic. I have used this in my front page of my
newspaper as it would grab people’s attention as a large image of armed police
with armour on is quite intriguing. I chose to create a billboard and a radio
advert alongside my regional newspaper as I felt they complemented each
other well and felt like I could make them to a good standard.
3. Billboard
In my billboard, I also used bold imagery taking up the majority of the billboard as it is
essential in order to grip people’s attention with a large image of a police officer in a
fluorescent jacket which directly relates to my article on terrorism. The bright colours from
the police fluorescent jacket has connotations to crime and danger and in this case, it is
relating to terrorism so it would present to a person looking at the billboard that something
big has happened and would hopefully intrigue them into considering buying the product.
The newspaper name and details about the main article is accompanied more central to
the image in standout colours to ensure that they can’t be missed as that also works to
intrigue the reader into buying the product. Around the billboard is other important
information about the newspaper such as forms of interaction with social media along with
the newspaper website address. I presented my newspapers name in its distinct colours as
it is practically my newspapers brand logo so it can be easily recognised and known that
this is an advert for the South Eastern Weekly newspaper. I purposely used a different
headline & image for my billboard as it is good to have a wealth of imagery throughout all
my construction tasks. If I had repeated the same images or headlines, it would make my
newspaper look basic and low level so I used slightly different images which still link
strongly to the main article.
4. Radio Advert
In my radio advert, I tried to convince the consumers to buy my product by presenting
good facts about my newspaper to try and convince potential customers that the quality
of my newspaper is high and worth a read in the South-East London area. I do this
because there is a vast wealth of regional newspapers around the country that are quite
poor and bias so it is important to present straight away that my newspaper stands out
from the rest. I used the big contemporary issue of terrorism as my main feature in my
newspaper and advert as they are big news stories that attract lots of attention, especially
when the events that take place are very close to the origin of the newspaper. I used the
voice of the article writer so there is continuity between the advert and the newspaper
and as I am a young adult, other young adult listeners might be more inclined to listen to
my advert and thus consume my newspaper. I made the script link into my article as the
main article is the major selling point of my newspaper so I need to make it sound
interesting in order for people to pay my newspaper attention. I also made sure I made
my newspaper name loud and clear so people know exactly what newspaper is being
advertised and so there is no mix ups or confusions.
