2. What is a Magazine Advert?
• A magazine advert is simply an advertisement
used by companies varying in size from a few
lines to an entire page. Most frequently an artist
may use them to advertise tours, merchandise or
new releases. For an advert to be most effective
an artist may place their advert in a national
magazine rather than a local magazine, with their
target audience in mind when choosing design
and colours etc.
3. What does a Typical Advert
Include?
• A typical advert promoting an artists album/
single would include things such as the artists
name, album cover or picture of the artist, a
theme that coincides with the album/single,
information of when/where to buy the new
release and possible tour dates.
4. Why is Advertising Important
in a Magazine?
• Target Audience - Magazines whether local or national,
digital or physical will have a certain audience who reads
the magazine. This is a perfect opportunity for an artist
as it’s an easy way for their advert to reach their target
audience. For example an artist trying to reach a
younger audience would put their advert in a magazine
such as Now.
• Popularity -Although theres been a steady decline in
magazine sales in the 1960’s, magazines are still
extremely popular in modern society with millions being
sold yearly.
