12. When applying, do list all your grade 12 courses,
MacEwan will decide on your top marks. Grade 11
courses must also be submitted.
For competitive admission, it does not matter when you
apply, mark ranges are available on the website. Being in
the range, though, does not guarantee acceptance
Once you get an offer of admission, you must accept
within 45 days or your application will be cancelled.
If you are accepted into your second choice, but waiting
on your first, you can decline the offer but you must tell
them you want to wait for your first choice.

14. Justice Studies diploma is a new offering
The Bachelor of Science Psychology can now be completed
entirely at the college in collaboration with the U of C
New: Bachelor of Applied Arts in Animation and Visual Effects
Fall 2019: Bachelor of Applied Arts in Film, Theatre and Live
Entertainment
Bachelor of Science Engineering – If you wish to take
engineering, you may want to do your first year here and then
transfer to UAB. You need a 65% average minimum but last
year competitive average was 3.50. See Ms Wegner for the
Science and Math requirements or check online. The
viewbook is NOT correct.

15. • Creative Arts Student for a Day – you can choose
Acting, Production, Animation, Visual Art or Music.
• Dates available are November 23, February 1 and
March 29. Space is limited, so register early. Lunch is
provided.
• Pre Health Sciences certificate can help you prepare for
another health program at Red Deer. 10% of the seats
are open to students who successfully complete this
program and meet all other admission requirements.
• The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is changing
curriculum in Fall 2019 to match changes made at UAB
• A 3.69 GPA is needed to get into the Nursing program,
so consider taking Open Studies first to boost your GPA

There are also Diplomas in Acting, University Studies
and Associate in Ministry
60% average for admission, with some program-specific
requirements.

(Liberal Arts, History, English, Psychology, General
Studies), Education (after-degree, elementary) and
university and pre-professional transfer programs

21. Support needed for Senior
A senior living in Keir Care is looking for someone to
work with her at different times during the day.
This would be a good role to take on to see if you
want to work in the health care field.
This can be for work experience credit and a
monetary reward could be negotiated.
See Ms Wegner if you are interested.

22. Schulich Leader Scholarships are the largest and most
prestigious undergraduate Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarships in Canada,
with a value of up to $100,000 each. Fifty students
receive this celebrated award each year.
Barrhead Composite can nominate one student. Even if
you are not recipient of the scholarship, it is an honor to
be nominated.
If you wish to apply for this scholarship, you must give
Ms Wegner a resume and a letter explaining why you
think you are a worthy nominee for our school.
Deadline is November 9.

25. Social 30-1 vs 30-2
Many students are asking if they need to take Social
30-1 in grade 12 if they have enough grade 12
math and science courses to get into university.
All universities follow a liberal arts philosophy, so
even if you are planning to get a Bachelor of Science,
you still have to take Arts options.
Social 30-1 can prepare you to have more success in
these Arts options.
