10. Magazine Campaign
The annual Magazine Campaign Fundraiser “kick off” will be on
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018, for our jr. high students. Funds
raised will be used to support student activities at the school.
Renew your favourite subscriptions, order new titles, or give
magazine subscriptions as gifts. Our Jr. High students will be
coming around with catalogues and order forms, they will also
have access to online sales. Make cheques payable to
“Barrhead Composite High School”. You can order online at
www.QSP.ca by using our school group number “3693074”. All
orders placed online will receive “double points” for the student.
Collection days will be October 10th, 17th, and 24th in the
student’s English class.

14. Rules on Vapes and E-cigarettes
E-cigarettes or vapes could contain illicit drugs and as
such, any e-cigarette or vape found on school property
will be considered drug paraphernalia. Students who
bring such items to school will be subject to consequences
under the school board's "Unauthorized/Illegal/Stolen
Substances/Items" policy (AP 50-12).

ELT blocks
• Grade 10 students will stay in the class that is just
before the ELT block—please bring extra work

• We will not be registering or taking attendance, but
attendance is still expected—be sure to use ELT or it

Summer work experience and RAP students need to drop
off paperwork and also pick up a final package for
assessment.
Semester one work experience and RAP students need to
check in with Ms Wegner prior to working. No one
should leave the school during their work experience
block without checking in and completing all paperwork
first, otherwise you may be removed from work
experience
If you have an after-school job or work weekends, you
may want to see Ms Wegner to pick up the paperwork to
receive credit for the job.

32. WHAT IS SHAD?
It is a unique Canadian summer enrichment program
and network where high achieving high school
students are given the opportunity to participate in
hands-on learning including workshops, lectures, labs
and team challenges revolving around science,
technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM)
You must apply this fall to participate next July. The
competition to participate in this program is fierce. It is
open to students in grade 10 to 12.

33. LORAN SCHOLARS FOUNDATION
The Foundation was founded in 1988 to fund
outstanding students to study on Canadian university
campuses. They seek well-rounded students who
demonstrate character, promise of leadership and
strong commitment to service in the community.
You must present a minimum cumulative average of
85% and are planning to attend the University of
Alberta or University of Calgary. Other out-of-
province schools are also on the list.
Application deadline is mid-October.
The school can sponsor only one student, but you can
apply on your own. See Ms Wegner if you are
interested.
