16. GRASP
K-8th Grade
GRASP, Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program, is a correspondence
program in reading and math for grades K-8. The program seeks to help stu
dents retain skills learned during the past school year by providing review ex
ercises. How does GRASP work? A student is enrolled in reading and/or
math in the grade level just completed. Children receive a packet of materials
with a booklet containing 9 lessons. It should take your child approximately
one hour to complete each weekly lesson. They complete one lesson a week
or work at their own pace, as long as they submit lessons before August
21st. They mail or return the lessons to the Community Learning Center
where they are scored and returned to the children with comments. We also
have an online option for students 4th-8th grade. Children successfully com
pleting at least 7 lessons with 70% accuracy are awarded a certificate. Those
completing all 9 lessons with 70% accuracy receive a medal. Registration
needs to be completed no later than May 22nd.
