2. Game Art Style
• Arma 3 is a game which incorporates a photo-realistic graphic style, mainly
because of the game being a military simulation game. Although the game was
released in 2013, the graphics are still very photo-realistic. Having photo-realistic
graphics for this game works well due to its genre and the fact that the game is
one which embodies a serious tone.
3. Perspective
• In Arma 3 you can choose whether to play in a 3D Third Person
perspective or a 3D First Person perspective. You can switch between
these two perspectives whenever you like. There is also an option to have
an Arial perspective of the game whilst you are playing it too.
4. Character
In Arma 3 there is no main character that you play as.
Instead you can create your own character and go through
different missions and scenarios with that character. You can
go through an entire virtual armoury to choose gear and
weapons for your character so that you can play how you
like.
You can also customize your characters appearance, sound
of voice and name so that it adds a bit more personality to
your character that you play as.
You can also enter a “Squad URL” which makes it so that
your character can be recognised by a squad on the
multiplayer part of the game.
5. Single Player
The single player aspect of the game has a few different options on
what you can play. You can do the Arma official campaign missions,
which are based around a civil war that has erupted on two
Mediterranean islands of Altis and Stratis. You play as a soldier in a
NATO peacekeeping force which was deployed to these islands due
to the humanitarian crisis caused by the civil war.
You can also play either official scenarios created by the developers
of the game or you can play a community made scenario made by
other players of the game.
6. Multiplayer
There are many different aspects of the multiplayer mode of Arma 3. Although Arma 3
is a military simulator, there are also different mods for the multiplayer that transform
the game into an Life-RPG game in which you can play as police or get other jobs as a
civilian. Other game modes are King of the Hill, Wasteland – which is an open map
where you find guns and kill other players, Co-op missions, PVP/PVE, and many more
community made modes. You can also play the single player campaign missions with
another player over the internet. Most of the life servers that are on Arma 3 also
usually have mods enabled which can enhance the gaming experience.
7. Goals of the Game
• There is only really a goal for the campaign since you are able
to do what you want in everything else. In the campaign your
goal is to suppress rebels and keep peace on the islands of
Altis and Stratis since you are a soldier in the NATO
peacekeeping force.
8. Rewards
In the multiplayer part of the game you are rewarded in different ways for in
different game modes. An example being in the life game mode you can do
different jobs or criminal acts to make money which you can then use to
purchase cars and guns and other things. Another example would be the king
of the hill game mode. In this game mode you can capture points and kill
players from the enemy teams to earn money and experience so that you
level up to unlock new things that make your character more powerful. The
money that you gain can also be used to purchase new weapons and vehicles.
9. Rules of the Game
• The rules of the game vary throughout different game modes
and servers. This is because of the way those modes are
meant to be played and how different each mode can be.
There are usually general rules which are don’t kill your team
mates (sometimes with exceptions) and don’t cheat.
10. Genre of the Game
The genre of the game is a tactical shooter/military simulator.
There are not many games like this game, other than the other
ArmA games. I would say the the ArmA franchise has really
defined this genre and Arma 3 has done what all the other
games have done but with better technology and on a better
engine.
11. Video Game Addiction
Video game addiction can be caused by games that give the
player rewards for playing, which leads them to come back to get
more rewards until they get hooked and play it regularly. It can
be very serious, sometimes resulting in death. For example there
was a man in South Korea who went to an internet café to play
games for two days and got a blood clot that went to his brain
and killed him.
