2. ME
My name is James Lodge and I’m looking to create a racing game with a new twist.
I feel that with Racing Games, you have the potential to have things work out
differently every time you play, as opposed to say a plat former, where all the jumps
will be the same with each play through. In this sense, a racing game has that extra
element of Chaos, which can really get the adrenaline pumping. I want to take this
even further by adding unique game modes to the racing game formula in order to
add an extra layer of chaos to the action.
3. TARGET AUDIENCE
The Target audience for this game will be primarily racing game and action game fans.
At it’s core element, Grav-Racer will be a Combat racing game, therefore I
feel even gamers who aren’t racing enthusiasts, but lets say action game
fans, or Third-person shooter fans can still enjoy this game to it’s fullest.
4. THE GAME
I’ve spoke about how I wanted to create a racing game which really emphasises an
enjoyable yet chaotic experience, however I’ve not really spoke about those unique Game
Modes that I plan to achieve this with. The first of these game modes is Gravtron Grab!
In this mode, both racers must race to the destination of the Gravtron and collect it before the
other racer. However this is not the end of the match, the other racer has the chance to snatch
the Gravtron from the other racer by clashing with them within the remaining set of laps. As
the Gravtron is a volatile energy source, weapons are prohibited for the chaser, as a heavy
impact will cause an explosion, destroying the Gravtron.
Within Grav-Racer,
A Gravtron is a
valuable, yet volatile
energy source, it is
necessary to repair
your Grav-Racer as
well as gain
upgrades.
5. Combat Arena
Within this mode,
the players only
objective is to
Destroy their
Opponent.
If your racer is
lacking in fire
power, you could
be at a
disadvantage.
However if you
have speed, you
may still have a
chance.
This match will end if
one of the players
completes the set
number of laps.
This is a chance for
low powered players
to avoid unnecessary
damage,
In this game, you need Gravtron to repair your racers
and achieve upgrades. If you’re wiped out or heavily
damaged during Combat Arena, you will be at a
disadvantage for the following matches.
However it is also a chance for players
confident in their combat abilities to disable
their opponents in upcoming matches or
wipe them out all together.
6. Standard Race
This is the Standard race, Up to 8 players can compete and in this mode everything
goes. As opposed to the Combat Arena Upon destruction, your racer will respawn,
however there is a Gravtron price for this.
The player must make a decision upon each respawn. Would they like to
continue the race from the position they were destroyed or opt out of
the race and conserve what Gravtron they have left. The winner of the
race will be rewarded handsomely with Gravtron, 2nd and 3rd place will
also receive an amount of Gravtron for their efforts.
7. Stunt Gauge
Within Stunt Gauge, the Grav-Racers will be awarded Gravtron for performing stunts
Conveniently, the more difficult the trick, the higher the gain of Gravtron. There is
however a heavy toll for failure. If you fail a trick, you will lose double the Gravtron of
what you would have gained for succeeding.
Choose your tricks wisely
if your tricks aren’t difficult
enough, you could lose out
to your opponents, however
if your tricks are too difficult,
you risk
sabotaging your self!
8. THE STORY
Grav-Racer is set in a futuristic galaxy in which resources are scarce. The most valuable
resource is Grav-Tron. Every 10 years 4 different worlds send their personal Grav-Racers
to compete in a grand tournament in order to win a large amount of this resource.
This game has an online component to it. You will be a racer from one of these 4 worlds.
You will represent your world in the tournament of which there will be a weekly leader
board. This will be reset each week and at the end of that week, the leading world on this
board will be rewarded with a large amount of Grav Tron.
In order to avoid players just choosing the world which happens to be winning during a
singular week, the players will do a small personality test at the start of the game and
based on those results they will be allocated into an appropriate world.
9. UNIQUE SELLING POINTS
The unique selling points in this game certainly lie in it’s game modes. I feel I’ve come
up with game ideas which have never really been implemented before and while the
online component of being put into one of 4 teams to represent has been done in
games before, (most commonly MMO’s),
it’s never really been done for
a racing game before and I
feel this will allow the genre to
become much more of a
team based platform.
10. VISUAL STYLE
The visual style in this game was heavily influenced by Tron. Especially the Light
Cycles. I felt the original look of Tron was a marvel for it’s age and the sequel
emphasized that further. I really wanted to try and capture the look of that digital
world within a racing game.
I would go as far as to say that Tron even
inspired my ideas for coming up with new
and unique game modes, as Tron introduced
both the Disc battles and Light Cycle races
which were unique in them selves.
11. TARGET HARDWARE
The target hardware for this game would be the PS4 and Xbox One. I’m very much a
console gamer myself and would love to see this sort of game on consoles. While
I’m not objected to seeing it on PC, I feel it would require specially made controllers
to thoroughly enjoy whilst consoles already have those packaged in the box.
