2. Analysis Of Mortal Kombat X
The font used to display the
games name: ‘Mortal Kombat X’
is sharp and bold. This helps
reflect the violence and boldness
of the game. This links into the
use of an inhuman main
character on the cover, as well
as the weapon he uses being
clear and obvious.
One of the mains focus’s in this
cover is the knifes. They have
created a lighter aspect to this
which draws the audiences eye.
This again helps exaggerate the
violence and links into the sharp
effect of the font.
They have included one of the
characters you can chose to play.
This character has abnormal
feature which reflects the inhuman
violence which is presented in the
game. This abnormality reflects
the violence which links into both
the font and the weapons.
They have incorporated the classic
Mortal Kombat logo. This shows a
dragon head which reflects war and
anger. This again helps into the
violence of the game. The dragon
also represents courage which helps
link into the boldness of the font.
The Genre of this game is a
fighting game. The colours used in theses are dark
which again helps reflect the violence
and death that occurs within the games.
3. Terrain, Architecture and Object
The Terrain within Mortal Kombat X is classed as
a interactive game. This is due to being able to
use the Terrain as a weapon. The definition of the
word Terrain is the environment you interact with.
With in Mortal Kombat X you can use the Terrain
in violent ways which kills your opponent quicker
and easier. How you use the Terrain also
depends on what controls you use as well as your
player.
The Objects within Mortal Kombat X are classed
as interactive. This is due to being able to use the
objects as weapons. The definition of objects is:
Interactive objects in the world.
Mortal Kombat X also includes non-interactive
aspects. With in the architecture you cant climb or
interact with the scenery. However, depending on
the character selected you get different scenery's
and can chose.
5. Game Play Content-Characters
There are two main aspects to characters in games.
There is the playable character and the non-playable
characters.
The majority of characters in Mortal Kombat are
playable. This is so you can gain different experience
due to the characters having different ability's. This
makes them a playable characters.
However, when you play story mode you play against
characters which you cant unlock. This makes them the
unplayable characters. The unplayable characters are
played by the computer, making these characters more
advanced. Again this will depend on what level of
difficulty you select.
The outfit the characters wear varies with gender. This
game is rather graphic and all the female characters are
revealing. Where as, the male characters are more
decent and is more robotic and the classical karate
outfit. This again presents violence and fighting which is
what the game is.
6. Feedback Interface/Visual Art Style
Feedback Interface and the visual art style both play
huge factors in creating the quality and effectiveness of
the game. These two factors varies depending on what
genre the game is. In this insistence Mortal Kombat is
a fighting game.
Within Mortal Kombat they put you in certain situations
during the combat sequences,as the player interacts
with objects or other characters/players, the games
controller will react with acute to heavy vibrations. This
can happen when your player is attacked, when you
use your special abilities to fight the other player, or
when you interact with other objects. I feel like this
feedback interface is a good feature, this is due to it
making the game more realistic. This is because it is
physically reacting to the person playing the game.
7. Game Analysis
These are the characters life bars. If
they get hit, these green bars slowly
turn red.
This is the count down meter. This
means you have 90 seconds to kill
your opponent in.
These are the characters
special ability bars. As the
game goes on these fill up
and you can use them. They
create a lot of damage and
are very graphic in the way
they attack the opponent.
Making the game 18 +.
8. Game Type/Narrative/Game Setting
Mortal Kombat X is a fighting games. The narrative of Mortal
Kombat is convulted. This means the game has a very difficult
narrative which doesn't really have a sequence to it. In mortal
combat you have the option between single player and
multiplayer. The multiplayer option is playing against the
computer, where you fight and work your way up a ladder.
This ladders difficulty increases as you go up, making the
opponent stronger. This helps create a sense of achievement
on the game. However, the single player option give you a
story mode. This story mode is basically all the characters
combined into one. You get to experience different story
depending on what character you are playing in the moment.
This means your knowledge expands on the backing story of
each character. This makes the audience never get bored of
the overall game. This gives them the option to develop the
skills on that player which will help them unlock other
characters, resources and improve there experience level.
This means you get rewards like coins which you can spend
on assests. For example: you can buy different colour outfits
for your favourite character. The game setting in this game
varies on what character you play. If you play Scorpion you
are normally taken to the underground. This is due to his main
ability being fire and his exile to the world. As you can see on
the screeshots, these are a few examples of the setting
included in the game.
9. Video Game Addicition
Video game addiction is described as an impulse control
disorder, which does not involve use of an intoxicating drug
and is very similar to pathological gambling. Video game
addiction has also been referred to as video game overuse,
pathological or compulsive/excessive use of computer
games or video games. The gaming industry is one of the
largest money makers, making at least 3 billion a year which
is more then films and music make.
Video Game Addiction has caused many arguments which is
why it has taken so long to be certified. Many believe, being
addicted to a game simple isn't a thing. They believe its
growth with in society due to how popular technology has
become within this generation. They don't believe in
comparing it to addictions such as: alcohol, drug and
gambling abuse due to it not making the person suffer
finically. However, this isn't entirely true. The majority of
people who become addicted to games invest a lot of time
and money into them. For example: if you're playing a video
game on Facebook where it requires gems to speed
construction up etc, people will invest hundreds of pounds
into this. This is due to them wanting to increase the
characters play and achievements. The symptoms of gaming
addiction include: Lying to friends and family, isolating
themselves, feeling irritated when not being able to play
games and preoccupied thoughts of playing the next session
online.
