1. Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of existing media
products?
By Syed Murtaza Ahmed
2. The genre of my film is
Action/Thriller. I have chose
Warner Brothers as my institution
as it has produced very famous
films of this genre like Batman ,
Inception etc.
The Dark Knight is one of the
highest grossing films of Warner
Brother hitting $533 Million on the
box office chart.
An Action/Thriller film combines
features from Action films and
Thriller films in order to give the
audience a an ‘action packed
thrilling experience..’
3. The genre "Action Thriller" is, on its
surface, a mixture of action and thriller
content. To understand what this genre's
name actually means, however, we must
analyze its components.
An action work will generally have a fast-
paced, centered, and definite plot. It
generally adheres to the hero cycle
faithfully, and its plot revolves around
character development. Action is inclined
toward third person narration, although first
person narration is not unusual. Action
works are also generally down-to-earth
works, even though their premise may be
fanciful.
Thriller is similar. It features a down-to-
earth plot, and it frequently plays into
people's fears (e.g. the film "Alien" is a
thriller.). However, thriller has a greater
tendency toward digression than action.
Also, thriller "rises" and "falls," whereas
action simply rises and keeps you there.
4. My Film Consternation contains
most elements of an Action/Thriller
film. In my film I have focused on
Props, Costumes, Lighting, Sound,
Editing and Camera angles to
assist my audience in
understanding the genre for my
film.
The Mis-en-scene of the film
includes dark lighting techniques
that have been adapted in many
Warner Brother films. Other
aspects include things like an
expensive phone, well kept house
which portrays the main character
to be rich.
5. The Props used in this genre
include weapons of mass
destruction in high budget films
like Batman. Also this genre has
been used to produce many
Superhero films like Spiderman,
Superman which include
gadgets, future technology,
super cars. The props also
portray the characters to be
very tech savvy usually as
these films to enhance the
viewers experience by taking
them into the future.
6. The costumes used in this
genre include different
colors like Black, Red, Blue
etc. The colors indicate age
groups of the characters
and also reflect personality
traits. The genre uses
costumes as essential part
of the film as things like
Gloves for the Villain,
Underwear for the
Superhero, Armors for the
heroes are all conventions
that have been developed
by the producers since the
first of films.
7. The editing in these films is very
difficult as Action scenes involve
impossible stunts that can only be
pulled off by using software’s like
Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop. The
music that is used to develop the
scenes also has to be correctly
edited and fit into the right place to
give a Thrilling experience for the
audience to involve them even
deeper for following scene.
Most of the scenes in Action/Thriller
films that include disaster, mishap
etc. are computerized.
The characters in such films have
their own stories which are mostly
untold till the end to keep the
audience attached to their seats. For
example in Batman : The Dark
Knight Rises, the villain at the end
was the superheroes girlfriend.
8. Another very important part of
this genre is the title.
The title has to reflect the
movie, the main characters, the
storyline and has to be eye
catching as the audience if hear
about a title get persuaded
enough to watch the films.
My title Consternation reflects
the storyline as the main
character is in trouble,
something unexpected is about
to happen and even though the
movie is silent in the beginning
because of the title the
audience understand that
something Thrilling is about to
take place.
10. Usually an Action/Thriller film
has a hero that is gifted with
some special talent and tends
to take the mission of
protecting the society that
he/she lives in.
My film challenges this
convention as it has a young
boy who has been caught up
in a cliffhanger and even
though he is just an average
boy he uses his wisdom to turn
his death day into a great
escape and ends up catching
the culprits.
