I included this question to find
out whether it would be
mainly boys or girls interested
in the idea of a school
magazine. I also wanted to
ensure that my questionnaire
was answered from the
perspectives of boys and girls
as our school is mixed, which
means I have to cater for both perspectives. Although with girls
making up 69.57%, I have come to the conclusion that my audience
will be mainly female but I will still include stuff for males as they still
made up 30.43% and this will give it a unique selling point to both
genders.
I have decided to direct my
magazine to 6th formers as all
the information I gathered
from the questionnaire shows
that all the people who
completed were over the age
of 16 meaning they were in 6th
form. I asked this question to
establish what age group I
should direct my magazine
towards 20/23 students were
6th form and this suggest that
6th formers will make up the majority of readers, so I decided to aim
the magazine specifically at the 2 year group.
I was interesting in finding
out whether pupils had
read a school magazine
before and surprisingly
60.87% said they had never
read a school magazine,
which suggests to me
maybe they don’t like the
current school magazine or
maybe they are
uninterested in reading a
school magazine I was also
thinking to attract more people to a magazine I might use a bright
colour scheme throughout to make it more attractive to its readers.
This question showed me
that the majority of pupils
would like the magazine to
be published monthly
47.83% ticked this answer
in the question. The next
one following was termly
26.09% showing that most
wanted a magazine wanted
to be published more
frequently. 17.39% said
they would like a magazine to be published weekly which is an even
further decrease from termly showing little interest in weekly
publishing’s. annually was the least preferred for publishing a
magazine 8.70% said they would like it annually showing that people
have little interest in this option, this has assured me that I should
publish my magazine on a monthly basic.
Although the front cover
is the magazine main
feature at attracting
readers to the magazine,
it is what’s in the
magazine which will
keep them reading so I
know how important it
is to keep the readers
interested and wanting
to read more with
specific stories and
topics, so I provided a
number of answers for
this question in my
questionnaire to give
me a better idea of what is wanted in a magazine the majority
at 30.43% said they would like school events to be included in
the magazine, then followed by school news at 21.74% which
shows pupils have a keen interest in information regarding the
school. The third most popular answer was career guidance at
13.04% and the least popular choices were features, sport
section and other all at
4.35% showing little
interest in these topics.
The vouchers available in
magazines always reflect the
target audiences interests. I
included this question as I was
unsure of what kind of
vouchers to include in my
magazine to encourage
students to get a copy for
themselves. I included popular places to eat and bagel bean was the
most popular at 43.48% showing that bagel bean is a popular choice
to eat for students closely followed by subway at 34.78% showing it
is also a popular choice and the two least popular was sienna
restaurant at 17.39% and other at 4.35% , which indicates to me
bagel bean and subway are the most popular choices made by
students and make it easier to decide what to include in my
magazine.
Freebies that are offered in
magazines can really bump up
the magazines popularity.
Although the magazine would
be preferred as a free
magazine and I wanted to find
out what would be most
popular to offer in a magazine
for students. Sweets, food
and vouchers were the most
popular choices which shows I
should include a something edible as this is what make up most of
the choices that have been chosen.
