3. MUSCULAR TISSUE
Contains Functions
1. Elongated cells
{also called Muscles
fibres.}
2. Special proteins
called Contractile
proteins.
1. Helps in
movements of
body.
2. Contractile
proteins contract
and relax to cause
movement.
5. Striated muscles
• They are also called
skeletal muscles as they are
attached to bones.
• The cells of this tissues
are long , cylindrical ,
unbranched and
multinucleate. {having many
nuclei}
• Under microscope they
appear to be light and dark
striations . Hence they are
called Striated muscles.
• They are Voluntary
muscles,
6. Cardiac muscles
• These heart muscles
show rhythmic
contraction and
relaxation throughout
life.
• These are involuntary
muscles also called
Cardiac muscles.
• They are cylindrical,
branched and
uninucleate.
7. Smooth muscles
• They are found in iris, ureters
and in bronchi of the lungs.
• These muscles are also called
visceral muscles.
• These muscles are spindle
shaped I.e. long with pointed
ends, and also uninucleate.
• They controls the movement of
food in the allimentary canal or
contraction & relaxation of blood
vessels.
• Hence they are Involuntary
muscles as they controls
Involuntary movements.
