2. Cliques
• A clique is a small close-knit group of
people who do not normally allow others to
join them
• A prime example of this is in 'Mean Girls'
where the cliques are acknowledged
humorously
• Some of the more common types of cliques
found include; jocks, tomboys,
cheerleaders, mean girls, foreigners,
gamers, hipsters, troublemakers, "cool
kids", emos and geeks/nerds.
3. Stereotypes
• Stereotypical Geek- glasses, really
clever, virgin.
• Stereotypical Cheerleader-
promiscuous, popular, not
intelligence, lots of friends
• Stereotypical Sports guy- mean,
popular, powerful, intimidating,
fancied by all the girls
• Stereotypical Outsider- sarcastic,
knows everything
• Stereotypical New Person- kind,
brakes stereotypes, different
4. Settings
• High School/Universities- locker room,
sports hall, canteen, fields, corridors, gym
• Massive houses where everyone throws
parties
• The Mall
5. Main Themes
• Often based around real life events in
teenage lives such as school, relationships
and friendship issues
• Using the theme of bullying allows the
audience to be drawn in and relate to a
character who is being picked on
• Having cliques makes teen dramas relatable
as well as in a stereotypical way everyone
falls into one group
• When teen dramas are based in schools
there is often a new person who doesn’t fit
in and the audience grow to love them as
they overcome challenges
