The information systems
ensure the integration and
coordination of the different
functional areas such as
accounting and finance,
marketing and sales,
operations / production and
logistics, and human
resources, in addition to
the management and
administration area, with
the computing area as a
transversal axis .
The organizational levels
of management and
decision making are
molded in a hierarchical
manner in a pyramidal
form. Each level of
management has its own
data needs,
responsibilities in
decision-making and a
time horizon.
Information systems were
traditionally designed for each
functional area (department) in
order to support and increase
effectiveness and effectiveness.
However, depending on each
organization, the traditional
functional structure may not be the
most idiosyncratic for the
organization since certain business
processes involve activities that
are carried out in different
functional areas; and on the other
hand, these functional areas will
not always be the same, since it
will depend on the size of the
organization.
The operational tasks of a
business process pass data from
one department to another. For
example, when products are
produced and sold, the production,
operations and logistics
department informs the accounting
department to process and load
the invoice on the credit card or
the buyer's account. In the
process, files are generated to
record the details of the activity.
The operating procedures must be
standard, clearly defined and
mandatory; they must be followed
without deviation until the process
is completed, just as if it were a
process of quality control.
The data in a company information system have a different meaning
because of the importance in the business processes. If the data is lost,
it has financial implications. Consequently, it is necessary and critical
that businesses have procedures to ensure that the data is safe and
accurate and the integrity of the data is maintained: security, accuracy,
consistency and consistency.
The company information systems are
software systems that help managers
and managers, as well as companies to
improve their performance by facilitating,
without any problem, sharing data
between departments and with external
business partners. The key information
systems for companies, at present,
depending on their size, although
logically linked to the functional areas
and their business lines, are:
 ERP (business resource planning)
 CRM (customer relationship
management)
 SCM (supply chain management)
 PLM (product life cycle management)
