2. Within our music video, we have decided to have face
paint and cards as a prominent theme and this will
also be seen in our digi pack. The cards will also be
part of our album concept as there are heavy
meanings behind each card that we believe link in to
our chosen song. As well as this, when receiving
verbal feedback from other peers we have found that
playing cards is a common feature that they would
associate with our song. Therefore, we have done
some additional research to help us choose which
cards to use in our video. We have also thought about
audiences not being able to recognise the meanings
of the cards and other props we use and we have
decided to include a booklet in our digi-pack which
instead of showing art work, we will show the props
and explain the meanings of them.
3. Ace of diamonds
The ace represents a new beginning. We decided to use this as
the song itself is called “stand up” and standing up to your
problems, being brave and starting a fresh start, putting all your
problems behind you. We will also present this through the
video by showing the rise of the girl who had previously
encountered quite a traumatic experience. The diamonds has
connotations of judgement which we used because near the
end of the song, we hear the lyrics “I am the warrior, I am the
change I've been hiding in the shadows waiting for your
judgement day”. This particular lyric is about someone waiting
for the day of judgment to decide what the fate of their bully
would be. We decided to use this idea and amplify it at the
start of the video by opening with an analogue scale with an ace
of diamonds on top. The scale would be showing a large mass
of the card and this would be because we have taken inspiration
from the Egyptian ceremony “the weighing of the heart”. A
heart would be weighed in comparison to a feather and if the
heart was equal to or less than the weight of the feather, the
soul would continue to the afterlife. In our video, we are going
to just show the weight of the heart (seen through the ace of
diamonds) being quite heavy and having a feather being blown
onto the pyramid when it blows down.
4. Joker
When using joker, it has an unknown quantity
depending on the game being played and has a
mysterious effect. It is up to you how you use it in
activities such as tarot reading which leaves the joker
with the number zero. This would mean that it can be
used as an opening to a story and the end to one. We
have decided to use this idea and present the
audience with a joker at the start of the video and at
the end. He will also appear throughout the video as
when tarot reading, if he appears within a spread of
cards it is usually to symbolise unexpected events. We
will show the card to the audience when we see
something unexpected about to happen or a sudden
change within the video.
5. Nine of hearts
The hearts represents love and vulnerability.
Our song is about someone who was once
vulnerable becoming strong and fighting for
themselves. The number 9 in a deck
represents surrendering because an 8
represents power and the 9 would be seen
as surrendering to the 8. We have chosen to
do this to as it is one of the main themes
within our song along side new beginnings
and mystery. Another reason we have chosen
to do a 9 is because in our song, there are
lyrics which reflect our actor once being
vulnerable to the person who is causing her
harm, for example “Watch it all fall down
around you now Was it ever really worth it
Having your kingdom crumble to the
ground”. By using a 9 we would be showing
this through use of props.
