The document summarizes the key elements used in the trailer for the movie "Pengyeulan" including key moments, on-screen text, titles, names, and music. The trailer utilizes six main elements found in most professional trailers: key scenes that advance the plot or establish characters/setting, a tagline, release date, cast names, and an original soundtrack. While following conventions, it challenges the norm by not including a voice-over, relying only on character dialogue.

How a movie trailer challenges conventions to attract audiences
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of
real life media products?
Trailers that are released worldwide are made up of six main elements, these are Key moments,
On-screen text, titles, manes, voice-overs and music. When creating the trailer for Pengyeulan
we utilised these six elements in order to make our work look professional. Our movie
Pengyeulan features the key moments that will have the most impact on the audience, whether
this is to tell them where the movie is set, the relationship between characters and/or to spike a
reaction from the audience.
The first key moment is the opening 10 seconds of the trailer - when the couple, Matt and Daisy
first move in. Here, we used Todorov's theory of having the equilibrium before the
disequilibrium. This will spike a reaction from the audience as they will see the normality of the
characters' lives before the supernatural activity begins. The second key moment is the start of
the doll's disappearances and sudden reappearances. By having this on display in the trailer we
convey the main focus of the movie, also by showing this we are establishing the genre of movie
- horror- and this will attract our audience, those of ages 12 and older. Another key scene is the
'bloodbath'. This is where Daisy discovers the doll sitting in the bath with blood splattered
around her. This is the apex of the trailer as this reveals the height of Daisy's panic.
On-screen text is also important when constructing a trailer as it offers more information that
may not necessarily be visual in the image on the screen. The movie tagline 'It's all fun and
games until the doll wants to play'' is broken up into two halves. The typeface is white and sharp
against the black background. This typeface is consistent throughout the trailer, which also helps
to establish the genre of the movie. The release date follows the conventional use and
placement, by having it at the very end it acts to close the trailer by giving the audience that
extra piece of information. ''Coming this October''.
Key names and titles appear in the trailer too. The title of the movie ''Pengyeulan'' features at
the end of the trailer, just before the release date and extra glimpse of the doll. We also
contained names of the cast, which we made sure that they corresponded with the actor on
screen. An example of this is when Daisy is alone, the name ''Lucy Westwood'' appears. We also
included the titles of the work that we made in AS Media ''From the producers and directors of
Bad Blood, Insomnia and Sweet Insanity.'' This creates extra appeal as people who liked the
previous works listed, will feel that they must watch this new release.
Although our trailer follows most conventions, it does challenge one - Voice-over. Our trailer
does not feature a voice-over. The only voices to feature in the trailer are those of the
characters.
The audio that features is original. It offers a contrast in tones and alters the emotion and
atmosphere of the movie. The first soundtrack is composed using a piano, this creates a light
atmospheric mood reflecting the normality of the characters' lives. However, we also added
some sombre notes using an organ. This acts to make the audience feel uneasy as although the
2. visuals on the screen show the normality of life, the music reflect the uncertainty of what is to
come. The second soundtrack is composed using a piano, an organ, and an electric guitar. These
instruments combined help to create the build up the suspense and tension.
