2. Initial Audience Research
Jess is 17 years old and one thing that defiantly takes a huge part in
her daily routine is music. She finds music relaxing and enjoyable, as
she listens to it while she is studying and even while she goes to sleep.
Jess loves to listen to music in a company with her friends/ family or
just by herself in a room or while walking home from school.
The music genre that Jess listens to is mainly pop and rock, however
sometimes she also enjoys songs that have some soul features. She
enjoys these genres the most, as Jess herself is an energetic and
positive person. Pop and rock link to her personality and she finds
them as genres that she can associate with the most. As the songs
often relate to how she feels.
Jess is a sixth form student and is doing 4 A-levels. As the final exams
are not that far away, she finds that music helps her to concentrate on
her subjects and take her mind off the negative. Some artists that Jess
listens to are Nick Jonas, The Chainsmokers and Rihanna. If Jess has
any free time, she always goes on YouTube and listens to the newest
pop charts. She mainly listens music in her phone, YouTube or
This is my initial audience research that I developed at the start of the course.
3. My audience feedback has helped me to develop, change and improve
my ideas, as their opinions and ideas were different to mine.
The first handouts I created for my target audience where to
found out their opinions on my CD digipack cover editing ideas.
From this feedback I then moved on with the editing technique
that the audience had chosen the most. This process helps me to
figure out what my target audience likes and wants to see within
a CD digipack.
4. The next time around I created a handout with
different fonts on it. Asking my target audience
for their opinion on what type of fonts should I
use for my CD digipack and magazine advert.
People preferred that handwritten looking fonts,
and I did too.
The audience feedback really was helpful
because as I had seen the fonts a lot of times but
others saw them for the first time and their
mind was clear.
5. As my target audience
preferred the handwritten
looking fonts, I used a
drawing tablet to handwrite
my own fonts. I then
printed them out and asked
my target audience for their
opinion once again.
Most of my target audience
liked the handwriting that is
circled, so that is the one
that I decided to go with.
Overall, form my audience
feedback I learned that it is
important to ask or other
people’s opinions. This is
because asking more
people will give me the
most accurate results about
what the majority of people
prefer.
