RED FOR THE BOAT RENTAL AND THE LIMEHOUSE
STATIONARY ADVERT IN ORDER TO CREATE AN
APPEALING IMAGE.

ADVERTISEMENTS OF THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER. THAT
IS THE REASON WHY I INSERTED ANOTHER ADVERT
ON THE TOP RIGHT.

• AFTER LOOKING AT THE REAL MEDIA PRODUCT I
NOTICED THAT THERE IS ALWAYS ONE MAIN
DRAMATIC AND EYE-CATCHING STORY WITH A
LARGE SCALE IMAGE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF A
LOCAL NEWSPAPER. THAT IS THE REASON WHY I
CREATED THE MISSING GIRL STORY AS MY MAIN
STORY. I INVOLVED THE WORD POLICE SEVERAL
TIMES TO ENHANCE THE DRAMA AS A LOCAL
NEWSPAPER ALWAYS NEEDS A DISEQUILIBRIUM IN
ORDER TO ATTRACT THE AUDIENCE.

• I CHALLENGED FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA
PRODUCTS FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:
• I CREATED MY OWN INDIVIDUAL LOGO UNDER THE TITLE
INSTEAD OF NEXT TO IT. I CHOSE A LOGO WHICH IS UNUSUAL
AND SPECIAL, AS IT CONNECTS TO THE BUSINESS AREA OF
CANARY WHARF AND REPRESENTS A BUILDING. USUAL
NEWSPAPERS USE A BIRD OR A TREE AS A LOGO.
• INSTEAD OF USING A CATCHING RED BANNER AS MOST LOCAL
NEWSPAPERS DO, I DECIDED TO USE A LIGHT BLUE ONE AS IT
FITS WITH THE ”HSBC” STORY BACKGROUND COLOR. IN
ORDER TO KEEP THE RED SHADES, I PUT A THIN RED BANNER
ON TOP OF THE THICK LIGHT BLUE BANNER.

AROUND MY ICONS CONNECTS WITH THE
BLACK WRITING ON MY BILLBOARD.

BY REPEATING MY CHOSEN COLOR
SCHEME THROUGHOUT THE BILLBOARD.
I COLORED SOME OF THE LETTERS IN THE

DECIDED TO KEEP MY ICONS IN A BLUE
TONE, HOWEVER I WAS THINKING ABOUT
CHANGING THEM TO A RED TONE.
LATEST BILLBOARD VERSION
On the third draft I add the words ’ The speed of
innovation. Our local newspaper ' in
order to make it clear to my audience that this is
about a local newspaper. I inserted more DLR
screenshots to make the red color appear
strong and powerful. The position, size and colour
of my icons has changed. I shrank them in order to
make them look structured and clear. I changed
the colour because I found a strong red tone more
suitable for this billboard advert. The final
billboard appears more professional because of
its font and bottom left side corner.

LOCAL NEWSPAPER REAL MEDIA PRODUCT • FORMS AND CONVENTIONS= LOGO ON THE TOP LEFT, A LARGE NEWSPAPER TITLE IN THE MIDDLE AND A SMALL AND COLORFUL ADVERT ON THE TOP RIGHT. • A MAIN STORY IS PLACED IN THE CENTER OF THE NEWSPAPER WITH A LARGE SCALE IMAGE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. • IT IS VERY COMMON TO PLACE THREE ADVERTS AT THE BOTTOM OF A LOCAL NEWSPAPER AS THIS EXAMPLE SHOWS US. • THE RED COLOR OF THE BANNER IS REPEATED ON THE BOTTOM WHERE THE CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME RED TONE.

INSTEAD OF PLACING THE LOGO ON THE LEFT, I DECIDED TO USE AN IMAGE OF A SKYSCRAPER UNDER MY TITLE AS THE CANARY WHARF AREA IS OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH BUSINESS AND BUILDINGS.   • 4. LOCAL NEWSPAPER • I FOLLOWED THE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS BY PLACING THREE ADVERTISEMENTS AT THE BOTTOM OF MY LOCAL NEWSPAPER. I CHOOSE A SIMILAR RED FOR THE BOAT RENTAL AND THE LIMEHOUSE STATIONARY ADVERT IN ORDER TO CREATE AN APPEALING IMAGE. • MY BRIEF GIVEN SHOWS DIFFERENT ADVERTISEMENTS OF THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER. THAT IS THE REASON WHY I INSERTED ANOTHER ADVERT ON THE TOP RIGHT.

LOCAL NEWSPAPER • AFTER LOOKING AT THE REAL MEDIA PRODUCT I NOTICED THAT THERE IS ALWAYS ONE MAIN DRAMATIC AND EYE-CATCHING STORY WITH A LARGE SCALE IMAGE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF A LOCAL NEWSPAPER. THAT IS THE REASON WHY I CREATED THE MISSING GIRL STORY AS MY MAIN STORY. I INVOLVED THE WORD POLICE SEVERAL TIMES TO ENHANCE THE DRAMA AS A LOCAL NEWSPAPER ALWAYS NEEDS A DISEQUILIBRIUM IN ORDER TO ATTRACT THE AUDIENCE.
  • 6. LOCAL NEWSPAPER • I CHALLENGED FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: • I CREATED MY OWN INDIVIDUAL LOGO UNDER THE TITLE INSTEAD OF NEXT TO IT. I CHOSE A LOGO WHICH IS UNUSUAL AND SPECIAL, AS IT CONNECTS TO THE BUSINESS AREA OF CANARY WHARF AND REPRESENTS A BUILDING. USUAL NEWSPAPERS USE A BIRD OR A TREE AS A LOGO. • INSTEAD OF USING A CATCHING RED BANNER AS MOST LOCAL NEWSPAPERS DO, I DECIDED TO USE A LIGHT BLUE ONE AS IT FITS WITH THE ”HSBC” STORY BACKGROUND COLOR. IN ORDER TO KEEP THE RED SHADES, I PUT A THIN RED BANNER ON TOP OF THE THICK LIGHT BLUE BANNER.
  • 7. LOCAL NEWSPAPER SECOND PAGE REAL MEDIA PRODUCT • THE SECOND PAGE OF THIS PARTICULAR EXAMPLE APPEARS VERY BUSY AND INCLUDES MANY STORIES. EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS VERY BUSY IT HAS TO BE VERY STRUCTURED AS BANNERS AND PARAGRAPHS HAVE TO BE ADJUSTED. This example shows one main Story, two small stories and an advert on the bottom left.

LOCAL NEWSPAPER SECOND PAGE • MY SECOND PAGE APPEARS BUSY, HOWEVER MY STORIES ARE CLEAR STRUCTURED AND THEREFORE FOLLOW THE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF A REAL MEDIA PRODUCT. • I INCLUDED VERY THIN BANNERS AND SMALL DETAILS SUCH AS REPEATING THE LOGO, PHONE NUMBERS AND WEBSITE AND EMAIL ADDRESSES SUCH AS REAL MEDIA PRODUCTSDO. • MY LATEST VERSION APPEARS MORE PROFESSIONAL AND LOOKS REAL, BECAUSE OF THE DIFFERENT THIN AND THICK BANNERS, COLOUR SCHEMES AND BACKGROUNDS. I PERSONALLY FIND VISUAL LANGUAGE AS MUCH APPEALING AS WRITTEN LANGUAGE IN ORDER TO SATISFY THE READER, BOTH ASPECTS NEED TO BE SHOWN. • I CHOSE DIFFERENT FONTS IN ORDER TO SHOW A VARIETY OF FONTS. I USED A WHITE COLORED WRITING ON TOP OF A BLACK BACKGROUND IN ORDER TO CREATE A CONTRAST. • THE RED COLOR FOR ‘NEWS’ IS COLORED THE SAME AS THE SMALL DOTS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE.

BILLBOARD ADVERT REAL MEDIA PRODUCT • THIS BILLBOARD ADVERT WAS MY PERSONAL INSPIRATION AS I ADMIRE THE CLEAR AND STRUCTURED LOOK. • THE BILLBOARD ALSO APPEARS CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE THROUGH THE CURVED AND COLORFUL LINES. • THE WORDS OPINION AND FACTS IMMEDIATELLY INDICATE THAT IT IS A NEWSPAPER ADVERT. • THE WORDS ‘THEGUARDIAN.CO.UK’ IMMEDIATELY SHOWS ITS READER THAT THIS IS ABOUT A NEWSPAPER.
  • 11. BILLBOARD ADVERT • I FOLLOWED FORMS AND CONVENTIONS BY COPYING THE STYLE BY TAKING SCREENSHOTS OF THE DLR (FROM ONE OF MY PHOTOGRAPHS) AND THEN TO INSERT MINI VERSIONS OF IT. • I THEREFORE CREATED LINES AS WELL WHICH SUPPORTS THE INNOVATIVE AND CREATIVE LOOK OF MY BILLBOARD.
  • 12. BILLBOARD ADVERT • I CHALLENGED FORMS AND CONVENTIONS AS MY BRIEF DID NOT INCLUDE A FACEBOOK LOGO ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT, HOWEVER I DECIDED TO ADD ONE BECAUSE OF NOWADAYS POPULARITY OF SOCIAL PLATFORMS. THE BLACK FRAME AROUND MY ICONS CONNECTS WITH THE BLACK WRITING ON MY BILLBOARD.
  • 13. BILLBOARD ADVERT • I FOLLOWED FORMS AND CONVENTIONS BY REPEATING MY CHOSEN COLOR SCHEME THROUGHOUT THE BILLBOARD. I COLORED SOME OF THE LETTERS IN THE EXACT SAME RED OF THE DLR TRAINS. I DECIDED TO KEEP MY ICONS IN A BLUE TONE, HOWEVER I WAS THINKING ABOUT CHANGING THEM TO A RED TONE.
  • 14. LATEST BILLBOARD VERSION On the third draft I add the words ’ The speed of innovation. Our local newspaper ' in order to make it clear to my audience that this is about a local newspaper. I inserted more DLR screenshots to make the red color appear strong and powerful. The position, size and colour of my icons has changed. I shrank them in order to make them look structured and clear. I changed the colour because I found a strong red tone more suitable for this billboard advert. The final billboard appears more professional because of its font and bottom left side corner.
