Traditional Viking music plays in the background, with screaming voices that signal the brutal nature of conflicts in the story. The main character Uthred is depicted as a strong warrior riding a horse with soldiers, communicating he will face high risks in battles.

I decided to choose the title sequence of the Last Kingdom, because it is one of my
most favourite title sequences, as it appears slightly artistic with all these drawings
and immediately communicates the genre of the movie because of the ships and
music.

4. SHOT TYPES
• The shots in this title sequence
are not continuously, as they
jump from one to another,
however they have to, because
in each shot there are new
drawings such as the jump
from the ship to the map. The
map in the second shot
represents the place and
country where the Movie/series
happens.

5. FIRST SHOT
The ship with the hanging
shields and the wild waves
immediately
communicates to us that
this is a movie about
Vikings or pirates. It
clearly shows that water is
key here.

6. BURNING BUILDING
This shot of a burning building
and the brave warriors in front
of it shows the danger of it and
already represents to its viewer
that this must be a historical
story. The flames in the
background are colored in a
strong orange and red, which
shows us the brutality and
danger associated with these
brutal and powerful colors.

7. This image looks like a
drawing and therefore
attracted my attention. It
represents a strong female
Viking. We can see that it
is a Viking, because of the
way the woman is dressed.
The fur clothing and her
strong and powerful
appearance.

8. MUSIC

• The soundtrack in this title sequence sounds like a traditional Viking music, with
voices, which sound like they are suffering and screaming. This is supposed to invite
the viewer and to tell us that this story is going to be brutal and will involve a lot of
suffering and fighting.

9. MAIN CHARACTER
This is the main character of the
movie. His name is Uthred and
he represents a strong warrior.
We can see it, because the title
sequence shows him with a
sword on top of a horse, and
shows the soldiers with their
shields up. This conveys that he
is strong and a high risk to other
warriors.

10. OVERALL IMPRESSION
• By looking at this title sequence, the viewer
will know that this is a historical TV series,
because of the soldiers. They will notice that
there is going to be brutality and fights,
because of the images of fire and war. They
could find out that it is about Vikings, because
of the clothing and first shot of the ship, which
plays a big role and communicates to us that
water and the sea is key here.
