Living Things Cells Processes
1. UNIT 1- LIVING THINGS Natural Science 5th Level
CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING THINGS:
• They are made up of cells. Some have just one cell (unicellular)
and other have many (pluricellular).
• Cells can group together and form tissues, organs and systems.
• Living things carry out activities that we classify into three life
processes:
- Nutrition
- Interaction
- Reproduction
THE THREE LIFE PROCESSES
• NUTRITION: Nutrition includes all the actions that living things
do to get materials and energy they need to grow and develop, stay
alive and reproduce.
• INTERACTION: Living things interact with their environment
because they are able to percive the changes that occur around
them.
• REPRODUCTION: It is the process by which living things
reproduce and create similar living beings. There are two types:
asexual and sexual.
CELLS
Cells are the smallest components of living things. They carry out the
tree life processes.
• PARTS OF THE CELLS: - The cell membrane
- Cytoplasm
- Organelles
- Genetic material
• TYPES OF THE CELLS: - Prokaryotic cells
- Eukaryotic cells
