Living things reproduce through both asexual and sexual reproduction. In asexual reproduction, a single organism reproduces to create descendents that are identical to the progenitor. In sexual reproduction, two individuals of different sexes are involved and descendents share characteristics of both. Sexual reproduction in animals involves the production of gametes, fertilization, and embryo development. In flowering plants, sexual reproduction occurs through three phases: pollination and fertilization, fruit and seed formation, and seed germination.
