4. www.skyquestt.comFactsheet: Present
• According to FAO*
> 500 mn smallholder family farms worldwide
Produces 80% of the world’s food
Cultivating over 96% of the total agricultural land
> 2 bn people depend on them for their livelihood
• Over 70% of the food insecure population in developing countries
live in rural areas
• The average smallholder cultivates
less than one hectare of arable land
Consumes > 65% of total production within the household.
Millennium Development goal is compromised…….

• According to FAO expected growth by
2050*
World Population ‐ 9.6 billion
Per Capita Income ‐ 1.8‐fold
• Resulting into increase in agricultural
production to feed everyone
60% overall

Major Challenges
Smallholder Farmers face diverse constrains related to production & market.
• Production Level constrains
– Declining Land – Labor ratio
– Stagnant food crop productivity due to low input use
limited irrigation, low fertilizer application, use of recycled seeds, no adoption of
technology
– Lack of sufficient support services including but not limited to skills
needed to enter lucrative markets
– Poor infrastructure
• Poor roads, electricity,
• Access to production and market information
• Extension that focuses only on production and NOT on storage, marketing and value
addition

Bio‐Nano Technology ‐ Increasing Yield
• Non‐synthetic, non‐polluting, non‐contaminable, free from chemicals &
carcinogens
• Increase plant’s health, vigorous, strength and makes it disease free.
• Prevents crop failure under un‐favorable climatic/environmental conditions
• Certified as organic inputs under standards of Govt. of India) and USDA
• Zero contribution to emission of greenhouse gases
• Input Saving:
– 15 to 25% seeds
– 75 to 100% Fertilizers
– 30 to 40% Pesticides
– 100% Growth hormones
– 100% Micro‐nutrients
– 50 to 60% Water
• Cost‐effective – affordable by smallholder farmers
• Suitable for all every geographical situation, all types of soil, botanical plant,
every farming condition, every climatic zone, and all categories of farmers
(Small, medium & large)

20. www.skyquestt.comTop predictions for life, 100 years from now
Three predictions related to today’s sessions:
Oceans will be extensively farmed and not just for fish
• Likelihood 10/10. We will need to feed 10 billion people and nature canʹt keep up with demand,
so we will need much more ocean farming for fish. But algae farming is also on the way for
renewable energy, and maybe even for growth of feedstock (raw materials) or resource
extraction via GM seaweed or algae.
Deserts will become tropical forests
• Likelihood 7/10. Desert greening is progressing, hence possible.
We will be able to control the weather
• Likelihood 8/10. There are already some weather control technology for mediating tornadoes,
making it rain and so on, and thanks to climate change concerns, a huge amount of knowledge is
being gleaned on how weather works. The weather change technology wonʹt necessarily be cheap
enough to use routinely and is more likely to be used to avoid severe damage in key areas.
