1. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing
task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it
to full product?
Looking back on my preliminary work I have made a great amount of
progress. Firstly I started off by doing some research, which I did little
off and the result of that was my preliminary work was very poor. From
this I then did more research which I looked into the layout of
magazines and what content should be going on the pages and I did
some drafts and got feedback on this which then made me able to
create a much better magazine. Also, I learnt a lot from my research
and planning when doing my analysis of color plattes, fonts and my X3
front cover, contents page and double page spread, which was very
beneficial as it gave me ideas and inspiration of how to attract my target
audience. This helped me successfully go onto creating a audience
profile which I had to identify the hobbies, interests and general
knowledge of my audience. As a part of researching my audience I had
to look at the types of fashion that hip-hop/artists and their fans wear,
this resulted in me creating a mood board and fashion profile to help me
during my research and planning of my model.
Another reason why I progressed was because I was learning about
new technologies such as different software, like adobe Photoshop, and
as I went along I understood it more so I was able to work at a faster
pace and create better looking work. As I was using Photoshop I was
learning how to edit photos using tools like the magnetic lasso, which
was one of the key tools throughout the whole process. Also I learnt add
on different layers to make the magazine look more professional, as it
meant I could layer more texts over other texts. Whilst creating my
magazine I was constantly getting feedback, this was a massive help to
me as I could see where I needed to improve. One big area of my work
that I learnt about was getting the spacing right so that it looks
symmetrical and professional. During the early stages of my work I was
doing this bit all wrong but as soon as I learnt about it, it became very
easy to do and made my work look a lot better. One big factor of my
work that I learnt about was the way I should be presenting my work on
blogger, and all the different ways of doing this. For example I used the
posting area on blogger to post some work and then I have also learnt
how to use slide share and scribed, also I now know how to in bed a
YouTube/ Sound Cloud link onto my blog by using the gadgets.
