2. The masthead is large, clear and in a different font which
supports the codes and conventions.
My masthead font is also fairly artistic which supports the
RnB genre as it shows a more urban and messy look.
It does however challenge magazines such as ‘Q’, ‘Hello!’ and
‘OK!’ as it does not have a red box around it, which recently
‘NME’ have also adopted.
3. The main image is a medium-close-up of
the featured artist which supports the
codes and conventions by also having their
name as the largest cover line.
It also create a direct mode of address
and suggests secrets will be uncovered in
the interview.
The bright lighting on the artist also
supports codes and conventions of
established music magazines as it is more
striking and looks more professional.
The presentation of the tag lines also link
to the genre, as well as the actual RnB
artists stated, due to them being artistic
and sticking to the same colour palette
throughout, making it look more
professional but also following the
conventions of the genre of RnB.
4. Codes and conventions
of magazines are also
challenged by the
cover lines and the
featured artist
themselves.This is
because cover lines for
featured female artists
are usually emotive,
however mine is more
about her music
comeback rather than
her emotional
struggles.
An almost
negative
connotation
of female
artists.
An more
positive
connotation
of female
artists.
5. The layout of my contents page
follows the codes and conventions
of ‘Beat’ magazines as it is more
contemporary and artistic, like
my contents page.
This is different to magazines such
as ‘MNE’ and ‘Q’ which follow a
more structured layout.
Q Beat NME
6. My magazine also follows codes and conventions as all of the informative
text is kept to the left of the page, with the right mainly consisting of
images. This is commonly seen in magazine layouts.
My magazine also follows codes and conventions as it has the same
colour scheme throughout, similar to other magazines, giving it a more
professional look.
7. The page numbers were enlarged to anchor the images and to highlight
certain features within the magazine. This follows the codes and
conventions of magazines as enlarging the numbers is a popular layout
of magazines.
This is evident as many magazines such as ‘Empire’ do this.
8. On my contents page I have also added a subscription box,
advertisement and social media links in order to allow my
audience to interact with my magazine. This follows codes
and conventions of magazines as it is essential to have in
order for the magazines to increase interactivity.
9. I have also followed the codes and conventions of magazines by stating
the photographer in small print above the images. All magazines do this
in order to show they are the photographers own images and they have
not been copied.
I have also kept the house style the same throughout as this again is a
code and convention which is popular with magazines. By doing so, it
allows the magazine to look more professional and give it more of a
brand identity.
10. For my magazine I have followed to codes and conventions by
using six columns which is the layout usually used for articles. 3 of
the columns contain the headers and pictures, the other 3 (usually
on the right of the page) contain the article.
My magazine also has drop-caps and tag lines, which also follows
the codes and conventions of a magazine.
11. The header is the largest text on the page,
followed by a subtitle summarizing the
feature article. This again follows the codes
and conventions of a magazine.
My magazine
12. I have also used multiple smaller images from ‘behind the
scenes’, rather than just one large image. This challenges the
codes and conventions of a magazine as usually they are about
more serious and striking issues, however I wanted my interview
to seem les structured and more natural and friendly.
The house style is also continued throughout the magazine.
