2. FRONT COVER – MAIN IMAGE
With regards to the main image, I
kept mine in the centre of the page
and used a close-up mid-shot of
the artist which conforms to the
conventions of the Vibe magazine.
However, the Vibe magazine uses a
direct mode of address as the
models are looking directly at the
camera. My product challenges
this convention because there is
no direct mode of address.
3. WHY HAVE I DONE THIS?
• THE REASON I HAVE DONE THIS IS BECAUSE THE CULTURE OF THE HIP-HOP/RAP
GENRE IS ALL ABOUT THE MATERIALISTIC ASPECTS LIKE BRANDED CLOTHES AND
GOLD CHAINS, SO I FOCUSED MY IMAGE ON THAT.
As you can see from these
screenshots, the culture is,
very materialistic the photos
very rarely have a direct mode
of address so that I why I
concentrated my main image
on the material that the model
was wearing
4. FRONT COVER – COVER LINES
Vibe has cover lines that introduced artists that are going
to feature in the magazine. This is because they are trying
to attract a certain audience who enjoy listening to Hip-
Hop and are fans of these established artists (e.g. Drake
and Chris Brown are popular Hip-Hop artists).
Putting artists on the cover lines is a very common and
useful convention that most magazines use. Therefore, I
did the same thing by adding artists like ”Travis Scott” and
“Drake” like the Vibe magazine did. This means that my
magazine conformed to the codes and conventions of
other magazines.
5. CONTENTS PAGE
I very much based my contents page on the the style of vibe
magazine. The features that I used were by having the first
letter of the masthead in the background which gives the
magazine brand identity. The layout of the contents title and
the feature list was also the same to follow the codes and
conventions of a Hip-Hop magazine. Finally, the main image on
the contents page is also in the same position as on the Vibe
magazine.
However, I also added some other images and titles like
“Grammy Awards 2017” in order to give my magazine its own
identity and give it a unique style.
