2. CAMERACAMERA
Throughout the process of designing my final front cover, contents page and double page spread I used a
camera a lot to capture images that I could use what would link in with my magazine and to see what
different effects worked best.
On my front cover image of my model I used the flash with the camera so that the photo looked more bright
and sharp. Where as on my contents page I didn’t use the large flash because of the lighting within the room
was to light therefore the picture would not of been captured properly. On my double page spread I used the
large flash and added lighting from the green screen room so you could see the depth of the contrast and
lighting dramatically so that the model looked like she was in a spotlight and that she was in a house music
event when the picture was taken.
I also used the camera to take a lot of back up images in case a certain type of image did not look right in that
type of magazine or the lighting/display of camera did not go according to plan. I also took back up images in
case something happened or went wrong with originals, this would help me change and re do that aspect of
the magazine quickly and efficiently, and still get the look and effect I was hoping for.
3. POWERPOINTPOWERPOINT
PowerPoint played an important part within my process of the media product, as it helped me organise each
sections when added to blog.
One of the main reasons why I used PowerPoint was to print screen my steps of all pages I designed to I could
show everyone what stages I went to and why by adding text next to each image. I also learnt how to crop
images quickly on PowerPoint so people knew what particular part I was talking about.
When doing my google mock ups of magazines I used PowerPoint at certain times do edited and adjust images
from google before editing them further on Photoshop I did this because I found it easier with the tools for
cropping and framing photos. I did this from discovering the ‘format’ section with the drawing tools which where
available to me.
Another way I have used PowerPoint is to write selected questions from the media evaluation as it is a clear and
understandable software to use so you can explain each point in a detailed way.
4. PHOTOSHOPPHOTOSHOP
I have used Photoshop the most from all the software used as this has been the main part of me editing and
making the layout of my full magazine. I have edited photos, colours, fonts and conventions through Photoshop.
When making my media product I was first introduced to Photoshop and it was the first time I had ever used the
software, but now I use it the most throughout all the subjects as it is easy to understand and brings out the best
results in my work.
The tools I used the most on Photoshop was the magic wand tool which helped me delete background images
and elements of the photos that I wanted a certain effect on like the change of lighting or sharpness so that it
fitted in with my magazine genre. I also used the marquee select tool which meant that I could edit an image or
text on one slide then transfer it to the main slide what had my product on without it causing errors to any other
parts of my magazine. The colour picker tool was also used a lot when designing my magazine so that I could get
the exact colour tones continuously throughout my magazine, this made my magazine look more professional
and neater when my audience was to look and read the media product.
5. MEMORY STICKMEMORY STICK
I used a memory stick to store all of my work each time I made a necessary process and if my work was on
different software's what needed to be linked together at some point for example Photoshop and
PowerPoint. Using a memory stick also meant that I could develop my work portably for example at college
or in my own home environment. Another reason what I learnt whilst using a memory stick is that you can
save original and edited versions of your work so you knew what was the best for your product and use that
certain work instead of the experimented/ original one what may not be right for your magazine.
PRINTSCREENPRINTSCREEN
I learnt that you can print screen certain areas of the page you wanted so that you can focus on one
certain element which meant you could explain your process when showing the readers your steps. Print
screen also helped me when I needed to compare the differences and similarities between my own media
product to real successful ones that are already being distributed worldwide now. This helped me get my
magazine to the best standard possible.
6. BLOGGERBLOGGER
When I started developing ideas for my magazine and media course work, I was shown blogger which helped
me present my work and ideas to other people and meant that I was able to see other students work for
inspiration and ideas that I could develop into my own way. I first went on blogger when I started my media
course and it has proven to me that it is the easiest and clearest way to put my ideas and progress of my work
across. Blogger also gave me a text space where I could explain what I am showing and why I am showing
them.
Once I have put my work onto blogger I am able to edit where I want this progress to be shown and how far
down/up I would like it on my blog when people are viewing it.
I can also have a theme with my blogger what ties in with my work in areas and looks tidier when people are
reading it, so that they can follow my thought process and why I have done certain things in certain ways.
