2. Title of magazine
I have chosen to call my magazine Pop It
This is because when I asked my target audience which
name suited a pop magazine the best they chose this one
meaning that they would be attracted to it themselves.
The name also fits in really well with the pop genre
making it very clear that it is in this particular genre
rather than my audience not being able to identify the
genre of the magazine.
Also the name Pop It is very catchy, upbeat and
memorable meaning that my audience will be more
attracted towards it.
3. Choice of genre
The genre I want to base my magazine on is Pop
I chose Pop because I felt like I knew this genre of music
better than other genre. Also I prefer the way pop magazines
are laid out compared to others meaning I knew what I
needed to do in order to create a successful pop music
magazine.
Also when I conducted audience research many people within
my target audience rated the Pop genre in the top 3 meaning
that there was a clear audience for this type of music
magazine.
My questionnaire and focus group all told me that my
audience preferred to have bright, bold colours on a music
magazine which fitted in well with the conventions of a pop
music magazine, making it a clear choice to make.
4. Target Audience
The target audience of my magazine will be teenage
girls around 13-16
I wanted to make a pop music magazine aimed at
this audience because when I conducted my question
many of the people who answered were around this
age.
Also this is the typical age that pop music magazines
are aimed at so I will be able to use ideas from
existing magazines in order to make mine attractive
for my target audience.
5. Content of whole magazine
In my magazine I plan to include:
8 advertisements
Fan Photos: readers send in their photographs of them with their favourite
artists
4 pages of fashion (clothing and accessories)
3 competitions
5 interviews with various pop stars

10 gossip articles (some with have full pages whereas others will have
smaller sections- quarter of a page, fifth of a page)
10 posters (7 A4, 1 A3, 2 A2)

8. Initial Ideas: Double Page Spread
In my double page spread I plan to include:
A main title and subtitle at the top of the first page
A Q&A based interview with clear questions and answers
in a 3 columned structure
A main image taking up a full page of the DPS
5 individual shots of the artist on the left hand side of the
full page
A clear, single quote line included on the image to attract
the reader
Page numbers on the bottom left/right hand corners
Promotion of the artists albums/singles/books/tours etc.
9. Initial Ideas: Photographs
Front Cover: On the front cover I plan to have a medium close up shot of the main artist. They will have a natural pose
and they will either look excitable or they will be smiling at the camera. The artist will be slightly leaning forward in order
to make it seem like the artist is reaching out for the reader, but this effect will be subtle. I also plan to include 3 strapline
images. Each image will be different in order to relate to the strapline given. These shots will also be medium close ups.
In the first image the artist will look slightly shocked/scared to fit with the strapline ‘What is Aaron’s biggest fear?’. The
second image will have a female artist called Lola looking quite loved up and she will be smiling away from the camera to
make her look shy/embarrassed about her story ‘Lola talks love’. The last image will relate to the real life story it is
promoting. The model will be staring straight at the camera with a slight worried look on her face in order to emphasise
the seriousness of the story, ‘Battling the Bullies’
Contents Page: The main image of the contents page will be a medium long shot. This will then include more of the
artists clothing which will make the reader feel like they can relate to the artist even more (artists will be wearing casual
clothing). The main artist will look like they are laughing/loving life and will be looking either slightly away from the
cameras or directly into it. The 4 smaller images will be medium close ups so the reader knows who the article is about.
They will be posing according to their articles. For example if an article is about shoe size they could be holding their
shoes.
DPS: The main image of my DPS will be either a long shot or a medium long shot of the main artist. A long shot would
enable the reader to see the artists full costume again meaning they can relate more to the artist whereas a medium long
shot would show the reader from the waist up. The artist will be smiling and laughing at the camera and will be really
happy in order to send out a positive message to the reader. Also on the double page spread I plan to include 5 more
individual shots in something similar to a film strip in order to give the reader more information about the artist. The
image will be random and will allow the artist to express themselves fully making the article more relatable.
