This slide is the first one of a series of slides adapted from the "Campbell Biology" for Bachelor student of science and medicine. In this Slide I have tried to briefly talk about taxonomy and the classification of organisms.
4. Classification and Taxonomy
• Taxonomy is the science of
naming and classifying
organism.
• In this chapter, you will learn
about the classification system
of organisms, as well as how to
identify the scientific name of
organisms.
• Classification of Escherichia coli:
• Domain: Bacteria
• Kingdom: Bacteria
• Phylum: Proteobacteria
• Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
• Order: Enterobacteriales
• Family: Enterobacteriaceae
• Genus: Escherichia
• Species: Escherichia coli (E.coli)
5. Classification and Taxonomy
All living creatures are
grouped into one of
these three domains:
• Bacteria (Prokaryotic)
• Archaea (Prokaryotic)
• Eukarya (Eukaryotic)
• Viruses are not
considered to be living
organisms.
13. Eukaryotes – Protista – Characteristics
• Heterotrophs which move
around through their flagella
and cilia or developing
pseudopodia
• Endocytosis
• Binary fission reproduction
16. Fungi vs Plants
• Fungi have Chitin in cell
wall unlike the cell wall of
plants, which contains
cellulose.
• Reproduce both:
• Sexually by meiotic
haploid spores
• Asexually by mitotic
diploid spores
