Yellow alfalfa, or Medicago falcata, is a perennial legume native to the Mediterranean region that is important for grazing and hay production. It has yellow flowers that bloom from July to August and seeds that ripen from September to October. Yellow alfalfa is more drought tolerant and can grow in poorer soil conditions than other Medicago species. It can also hybridize with alfalfa (Medicago sativa) to create offspring with strong potential for beneficial traits.
