3. Definition of Noun
■ A noun is a word for a person, place, and thing.
■ Nouns are often used with an article (the, a, an), but not
always.
Examples:
-That man is my brother.
-The room is clean.
-That man is my brother.

1. Concrete Nouns
■ A Concrete noun is a noun that can be identified through one of
the five senses (taste, touch, sight, hearing, or smell).
Examples:
■ Door, table, lamp, ball, star, sky
■ Water, village, river, etc.

■ An abstract noun is a noun that refers to an intangible
concept such as an emotion, a feeling, a quality, or an
idea.
■ It does not refer to a physical object. We cannot see,
touch, or detect readily through our senses.

1. Proper Nouns
■ A proper noun is a noun refers to name of persons,
including animals, places, or things. Remember, ‘proper
nouns’ must be written in Capital letters.
Examples:
■ Medan, Surabaya, Boston,
■ Chandra, Bengawan Solo, Semeru, Bromo, Ciliwung, etc.
