This then shows us that we have
successfully managed to target our
primary and secondary audience within
our opening sequence. We asked them
why they enjoyed the opening sequence.
Niamh: I enjoyed it because it was well made.
Joey: it had a good use of humor
Charlie: It was fun and exciting to watch.
Stuart: I enjoyed the style and the split screens.
Niall: It was full of humor
Harriet: I found it funny
Millie: I loved the concept of the opening sequence.

Q2: can you…
We wanted our
secondary audience
of the boyfriends and
the males to be able
to relate to the main
character Harry. We
wanted Harry to be
able relate to harry
and how he is
awkward around Flo
and how he is to deal
with the situation.
As our production company are Working Title we wanted to appeal to the
more sophisticated audience. We did this by having our Unique Selling
Point by making our main character a male. This would then target the
secondary audience of the males, but because working title are 67%
owned by Universal we needed to appeal to the income bracket C2-E, we
did this by then having girls as well as boys as main characters but the
main protagonist is a male.

We chose the age gap of 15-24
because we feel as though our film
would appeal to students throughout
school, college and university. But
when we showed the focus group our
film they felt as though 24 is too old,
this then shows us that we have then
made our age gap to wide, this then
tells us that we should make our age
gap from 15-19 and have the 20-14
year olds part of the secondary
audience. But others feel that our film
successfully targets the teenagers.
Knowing this then helps us understand
what we should do for our marketing
campaign and who we should target it
to. This has helped us understand who
our film is suited for.
12. Niamh: I would go see it with my girl friends because we enjoy to watch Romanic
comedies.
Joey: I would go see it with my friends because I have a mixture of boys and girls
in my friendship group.
Charlie: I would most likely see the film with my girlfriend
Stuart: I will go see the film with my girlfriend because she is a girl.
Niall: Friends because going to see the film with you family would be awkward.
Harriet: I would go see it with my friends as it was girly.
Millie: I would go see it with my friends because we enjoy girly films.
By looking at these results you can see that we have successfully target our
primary audience of 15-24 year old girls. But we have also managed to target
our secondary audience of the boyfriends and friends of the girls. We can
also apply the hypodermic syringe theory that the audience are passive. Here
most of our audience said they would go see the film with their friends, which
means that they have taken in our message that friendship is important in life.

As working title are 67% owned by
universal we need to target the
income bracket of C2-E we wanted a
traditional family home. The quirky
décor and homely feel which will
target our audience who associate
with a traditional English family home.
Our main location is where Harry, Flo,
Sophie, and Oscar are chilling out
before they go to a party which is
what teenagers do at our age. But our
location also fulfills the common
convention in Working title and that is
the representation of the upper
middle class which is the income
bracket of B-C1 when this is only a
small section of society.
We wanted our outside scenes
to connote the freedom from
the stresses of teenage life,
on one of the main stresses is
relationships, which is one of
the main themes we touch
upon within our media.

We wanted the girls to be in more
casual clothing to show that they are
comfortable in the company of the
boys. But when they go to get ready
for the party they make an effort
because there will be people. It is
unlikely that the girls would wear
joggers to a party. Flo and Sophie
are still going to make an effort when
they go out to a house party so they
wouldn’t wear full length dresses
which then means that they will wear
comfortable but still dressy clothing.
The clothes that the girls are wearing
are the latest trend so the audience
may want to take inspiration from the
film. Oscars outfit shows that he I
cool and edgy and it shoes that he
takes pride in their appearance. We
have chosen for Harry to wear a
burgundy this then shows that he
likes to wear expensive clothing and
brands and wants to look good for the
girls aka Flo.

noThe people we asked said that they
like the name of our opening
sequence because the like the play
on words and the pun. They also
feel as though that this then shows
them that our film is romantic
comedy.
Harriet: I like the name because it is catchy.
Joey: I like it because it is a cleaver pun and links in with the humor of the
production.
Charlie: I think its really cleaver.
Stuart: I don’t understand the name because I havent seen the rest of the film yet.
Niall: I don’t understand what it means.
Harriet: I really like the name because you can tell who the main characters are
straight away.
Millie: It helps me understand who the main character is and it then shows you
who Harry is interested in.

In our opening sequence we didn’t want to tell out audience the whole story,
we wanted there to be a sense of mystery about what happens because
Harry is narrating over the top being the voice of God he doesn’t know
weather or not Flo and him will get together or not.

We wanted the audience to
have personal identity with
the characters. We wanted
the shots to show the
connection between the
characters but I also
wanted the audience to be
able to relate with the
characters and see the
connection between them.
by having the tracking
when the four of them are
sitting on the sofa and are
individually introduced.
This then lets the audience get to know the relationship between the
four, and it then lets them see who they are more like within the
relationship. I then lets you see the emotions the individuals are going
through. The tracking also shows the connection between the four of
them on the sofa

Harriet: I love the song! And I
love the cover, the song is light
hearted and fits in with the
romantic theme.
Joey: the title of the song is
‘better together’ and it shows
the relationship between Flo
and Harry.
Charlie: I love the song and its
catchy and I really enjoy then
new version.
Millie: I love it because the
lyrics are perfect for the film.
We wanted the song to represent the
relationship between the friends, but
we didn’t want it to be a love ballad we
wanted it to be fun and catchy.

When we were editing the video
we had some trouble with the
length of the speech bubbles. We
had to get people to come and
watch the video to see if the
credits were on the screen for
long enough, and if the speech
bubbles were able to read. 6/7
people were able to read the
bubbles which then meant to us
that we had finally had the right
length. But Niall wasn’t able to
read the bubbles, but this then
means the some people read
slower or quicker than others.

When we first started making our
opening sequence we had
trouble because it wasn’t very
interesting. But also the actors
we first chose weren't very good
and didn’t take it seriously, and
weren't able to turn up to a
shoot. So we decided to change
actors. When we did this our new
actors took it more seriously, but
it still wasn’t very interesting.
We then started looking through the effects on Final Cut Pro X and saw
cross hatch. We wanted to incorporate this and came up with the idea
of comic book style. We then incorporated this and this then made it
more interesting and fun to watch.

In the opening sequence
Oscar and Sophie like each
other and Flo and Harry likes
each other. But they don’t want
to ruin the friendship. To make
sure that people understood
the relationship statuses
between the friends we added
in hearts to show to the
audience who likes who.But by also having the voice of god over the
top it then helps the audience then
understand what is happening in the
opening sequence. But it then also tells the
audience the story before the film had
started.
‘We have been friends
since we were young, and
its been that way since I
can remember’
22. Throughout the opening sequence the message is that friendship is the
most important thing which then made the audience want to see the
film with their friends.
Harriet: I feel as though that throughout the opening sequence the main
message is that love and friendship are the most important thing.
Millie: I think that the message of the film is that Harry fancies Flo
Niamh: I think the message is the romance between Harry and Flo
Joey: I think the message is friendship is before love.
Charlie: I feel the message is friendship.
Stuart: I think the message is a romantic comedy meets a comic book.
Niall: I think that the message of the story I that when you like someone you
should tell her.

As a group we wanted to
know what we could have
done better so we can
improve for next year so we
can improve our skills.
The only feedback we got to
improve was to make the
speech bubbles a bit longer.
When we were in the filming
process we did go through
some trouble. We had to re-film and start again because we were let
down by our first set of actors. And when we had finally started editing
we found that the opening sequence was boring. So we wanted a new
way to make the opening sequence more interesting. The comic book
style the lets us target our secondary audience of the males, but it also
adds an interesting twist onto our opening sequence.

Throughout the opening
sequence we wanted to show the
connection and strong
relationship between the group of
friends, and Harry and Flo. And
an example of this is when the
four friends are sitting on the
sofa we track across and
introduce the audience to the
characters.
By doing this it then lets the audience have personal interaction with the
audience, but also entertainment and it offers the teenagers escapism
from the daily stresses of teenage life. This is shown in the establishing
shot showing Harry sitting in the park in an extreme long shot showing
Harry’s freedom from his stresses in he teenage life with his love life and
school life.
