1. 2) How does your opening sequence represent particular
social groups?
Our opening sequence consists of one main character,
Anne, who is seen throughout the entire opening sequence.
Our film includes two other primary characters Amy and
Max. Anne is a mixed race girl, aged 17 who is currently in
High School. Anne is an average British teen that is trying to
fit in at school. She has an unusual sense of fashion that
isn’t well appreciated at school. The mid shot used in our
opening sequence shows Anne’s bizarre fashion sense. The
costume element from mise- en- scene shows a green
chequered shirt and long white skirt, this isn’t what a
normal 17 year old girl would wear. 17 year olds tend to be
update with the latest trends and enjoy wearing that is in
fashion. Anne is a similar character to Samantha
‘Sam’ Montgomery in A Cinderella Story. Sam also has
different fashion sense that isn’t appreciated by other girls
in her school. Anne also has an uncivilized side that is only
revealed at the beginning of her day. The close up showing
Anne gargling and blowing bubbles represents her as
character that isn’t your typical girly girl and doesn’t mine a
rough image.
2. Anne also has lifeless presentation
which can be seen in the close up shot
of her feet. The diegetic sound of Anne
groaning in the morning shows her lack
of energy in the morning. This also
suggests she is not a morning person.
Anne’s lifeless attitude in the morning is
similar to Lauren Branning
from Eastenders. Lauren is a character
is who lacks enthusiasm and liveliness.
Anne also deals with issues that a
social group of teens face in their life.
The opening sequence shows a close
up of Anne on a dating website
because of her lack of self-confidence
due to Amy’s bullying. The shot
represents a social group of teens
struggling to find love which is why they
result in dating websites in order to find
the perfect man.
3. Amy is similar to Regina George from Mean
Girls because they both enjoy torturing other people
and are always going after the boys. There were very
few issues with our cast because only one person was
required. We decided that Maria was going to be the
main character because as a group we felt Maria
would make the most realistic character because of
her experience in drama. Maria understood the
characters personality, behaviour and movement in
order to indicate an inactive character, with her own
unusual traits. As a director I expected Maria to be
very professional about job as an actress and also
study the role of this character by research characters
similar to Anne. Also Maria was expected to show
facial expressions and body language without being
guided in order to create an accurate that is believable
and also looks professional on screen. Maria was
transformed into the character of Anne by acting as a
passionate character that is unique and different.
Maria did a good job to stay true to her characters
representations and fulfilled the role brilliantly. If we
were to do the task again one think I would do
differently is check the location beforehand in order to
create a vision what the scene will look like.
4. Max is an 18 year old, white man that falls for Anne’s fake profile. Max enjoys
adventurous activities such as rock climbing and sky diving. He is one of the
cutest guys in school because of his soft brown hair and handsome appearance.
Max is a similar character to Troy Bolton in High School Musical. Troy is the
schools cutest boy that all the girls want, however he sees beyond looks and is
after a unique girl. Amy, the school bully, is a 17 year old girl who enjoys making
other peoples life a misery. She is popular within her own friends and is good at
seducing boys.
