These examplesof documentaryare of a similargenre tothe documentarywhich we are creating as
a group basedonplasticsurgerydue to the focusof how people look and their confidence levels in
these specificareas,meaningasdocumentariesfocusingaround dating and fixing something based
on someone’sbodywouldimplytheywill have asimilartargetaudience toourswhichare white girls
aged around 16 to their mid-30’s. Therefore due to channel 4 and other channels hosting similar
documentariesitwouldbe anideal time forustoadvertise ourdocumentaryas our target audience
would be interested in what our documentary is about but also as they are already fans of certain
documentaries featured on Channel 4, 5 or E4 it could potentially show how channel 4 have the
recognition and the target audience already meaning they could watch the majority of
documentaries based around the specific topic revolving around body image.
ITV
ITV include documentaries include more of an older target audience which would not suit our
documentary.Theyhave documentariessuchasCake wars,Bridezillasand Charles: The Destiny of a
Prince.These wouldnotreallyinterestourtargetaudience soitwouldn’tbe the bestchannel touse.
ITV have advertisements so it would be good to advertise our documentary between shows,
however our genre of documentary doesn’t suit the current ITV documentary’s. Even though they
have variouschannelssuchasITV 2, ITV Be, ITV 3 and ITV 4 they still would not be the best channel
as they don’t target our specific audience.

ď‚· Me and my guide dog
ď‚· The Only Way is Essex
Thisshowshowvariedthe documentariesavailable on ITV are; meaning it doesn’t always have our
targetedaudience watchingmeaningitwouldn.tbe the besttime tomarketourdocumentaryas the
besttimestowatch it will be lateratnightwhenprogrammes like TOWIElimitingthe available times
when we can advertise our documentary.
BBC
Examples of documentaries available on BBC are:
ď‚· Planet Earth
ď‚· Panorama
ď‚· Transgender Love
 No Body’s perfect with Rankin and Alison Lapper
All the documentaries available on the BBC channels are varied and mostly focused on providing
whattheybelieve isnewstotheir target audience suiting the older generation a lot more than the
target audience ourdocumentaryisaimingtowards.Alsoas BBC don’t have advert breaks between
the programmesshownthe targetaudience are more thanlikelytoeitherchange the channel if they
are onlywatching a certain TV programme available- meaning the small marketing time they have
betweenprogrammesislimitedandwon’talwayshave people watching or interested implying our
documentary won’t get as much recognition like it would on either Channel 4 or ITV.
To conclude, following our research as a group we have decided that Channel 4 would be an ideal
broadcaster to show and advertise our documentary. This is due to their target audience being
similar to ours through their variety of documentaries focusing on a similar topic.

Therefore due to channel 4 and other channels hosting similar documentariesitwouldbe anideal time forustoadvertise ourdocumentaryas our target audience would be interested in what our documentary is about but also as they are already fans of certain documentaries featured on Channel 4, 5 or E4 it could potentially show how channel 4 have the recognition and the target audience already meaning they could watch the majority of documentaries based around the specific topic revolving around body image. ITV ITV include documentaries include more of an older target audience which would not suit our documentary.Theyhave documentariessuchasCake wars,Bridezillasand Charles: The Destiny of a Prince.These wouldnotreallyinterestourtargetaudience soitwouldn’tbe the bestchannel touse. ITV have advertisements so it would be good to advertise our documentary between shows, however our genre of documentary doesn’t suit the current ITV documentary’s. Even though they have variouschannelssuchasITV 2, ITV Be, ITV 3 and ITV 4 they still would not be the best channel as they don’t target our specific audience. To conclude, following our research as a group we have decided that Channel 4 would be an ideal broadcaster to show and advertise our documentary. This is due to their target audience being similar to ours through their variety of documentaries focusing on a similar topic.
