This document discusses potential film distributors for a student thriller film project. It considers Universal Studios, but decides an independent British company like Film 4 would be more realistic given the film's small budget and use of unknown actors and directors. Blumhouse Productions is selected as the opening distributor since it produced similar paranormal films. Promotion strategies discussed include using websites like IMDb and social media to target the 15-18 year old audience, as well as creating a film website and product tie-ins.
2. If we were able to fabricate our thriller opening We
would have chosen Universal Studios as our
distributor due to it being very popular and world
known, this means that our film would become well-
liked especially as our target audience would be
able to watch the film in countries around the world.
Due to Universal Studios co-operating with The
Purge we believe that it would be a good
opportunity for our film to be part of Universal
Studios distributor, our film would be produced so
that it is suitable for both the TV and cinema
especially for ages 15-18 years old.
3. However if we were to be realistic we would like our film
to produced and distributed with an independent British
film company such as Film 4. This is because it is an
independent British film distributor, it also uses unknown
cast and directors. We would be able to use our own
props and location, as we used our schools equipment
our budget was incredibly small. Film 4 would be an ideal
distributor as they work with people who want to make
growth within the film industry, rather than 20th century fox
do who rather achieve a big gross revenue.
Although when using a distributor as an opening on our
film we decided to use Blumhouse productions as they
distributed and produced Sinister, which is a paranormal
film, so we thought that it was a good way to open our
film.
4. If we were to use the correct research and promotion it
would be possible for our film to be successful, if you
were to look at The Lonely bones film 4 were part of its
production the film has been nominated for Golden
Globes, Academy awards and it won Academy of
Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, including a lot
more nominations and wins. To advertise our film we
would target our audience via the internet using the
website IMBD as it is used world wide, we would also
use social networking sites including, Twitter, Facebook
and Instagram or Youtube which could allow our film to
be spread to more distributors and people who gain an
interest, meaning that they may fund our filming,
marketing and production.
5. I think that our film would gain a lot of attention from
our target audience, due to there being paranormal
occurrences. However it would receive a range of
criticism which could either be good or bad, most
people will be interested about the ending of the
film and they will want to know what happens, this
is a lot like the film Paranormal activity. To promote
the film further our film distributor could create an
official website for our film, creating more views
allowing visitors to watch trailers, interviews, and
behind the scene filming. We could also use highly
visible product tie-ins so that we would be able to
partner with companies who are linked to our target
audience.
