1. Micro Analysis of Sing street
Arriving at school
Cinematography
Shot/reverse POV
Mid shot, but it is not a shot of his face to, this is to show him when he is in the crowd.
The Camera also moves along with Connor to show him moving through the school.
Editing
Simple cuts between mid- shot of Connor and his POV
Sound
Non-Diagetic score is busy and loud, suggesting again he is lost in a busy mess of people
You hear enough of the diagetic sound to hear a few comments directed at him and to her
the slap of the head butt during the fight
Mise En Scene
Crowds of people everywhere
School uniform but everyone slightly different- scruffy- dangerous?
Smoking gives the stereotype of people who are classed as ‘dangerous’, ‘outsiders’ and
people who have a rebellious attitude, the teacher (priest) is up above it all and is not
getting involved.
All together
The scene uses these different techniques to show Connor isolated and alone amongst the
crowd.
Drive it like you stole it
Sound- Diagetic sound= the band are playing the song
Fantasy scene so- in the real hall the band are performing in which the band are miming-
they are playing for a large crowd
Editing
2. No real rhythm, just invisible editing of the band and the crowd, except at the beginning and
the end as there is a shot of him looking at the door- waiting for her to arrive at the hall.
Cinematography
When she arrives, the camera follows her together the hall to show us the transformation
