Q2. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
SOCIAL GROUP

Most likely to have a low
income job or perhaps in
education. Regardless of
income their money is usually
spent on luxuries such as
concert tickets or CDs / Vinyl
etc.
Mainly those who are passionate about
current trends, as well as being outgoing /
loud / bold / fun
Does not follow the crowd
and is always on top of
current trends around the
world
Their hobbies would include
partying, socialising, listening to
music, downloading new music,
attending high social events (such
as club openings, fashion week,
festivals)
Social media and their
social group are highly
important to them
Economically stable
enough to enjoy
dance and club
culture
FRONT COVER ANALYSIS
The cover star is of a similar age to the demographic of my magazine. It is
important to have someone that both male and female of the emergent service
worker sector can relate to as they want to be able to read about someone
The cover star has been styled to look like a world wide celebrity, yet still look like
an ordinary 16 – 25 year old in the demographic by having flawless makeup and
stylish hair. This is something that emergent service workers strive for.
The angled positioning of the cover star, with a light smile on her face is a staged
photo. I wanted the feature article photograph to be something that the
demographic can compare themselves to, because in the height of social media
popularity, emergent service workers would be avid users of Instagram.
The bold and vibrant colour scheme of black, white and purple stand out to the
demographic and resemble the dance and club scene that the demographic
sometimes surround themselves with.
CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS
I have included two images of solo artists of a similar age to the demographic in order
for the magazine to be more relatable to the reader as they look up and idolise
celebrities of a similar age or older. The long shot of the artist with her arms folded
expresses the look of independence and popularity, which is who my demographic are.
The fashion and style of the two artists express simplistic yet fashionable styles the
demographic would have. For example, the bardot jumper is at the height of fashion
and followers of fashion would expect to see this on celebrities in magazines.
The house style is clear in regard to the colour and typography used. Sophisticated
looks are key for the demographic, due to age range and occupation.
The bright purple exemplifes a resemblance to bright lights seen at clubs, parties,
festivals, etc. therefore, this is something the demographic would be able to connect to .
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS
The colour scheme of black, white, purple and grey is
continued on the double page spread, this exemplifies
house style shown throughout, maintaining the
sophisticated look, linking to the look of the demographic.
The typography for the title, stand first and pull out quote
has a ‘handwritten’ feel to it. I wanted this to portray the
relaxed and chatty tone the magazine has and I felt that this
font suited best. Maintaining the chatty and relaxed tone
aids in applying my demographic to my magazine because a
reader would want to relate to articles they may read.
The image of the artist located outside in a town centre is
relatable to the demographic, as the demographic are at the
center of their community due to the age range (16 – 25).
The use of having two images of one artist on a double
page spread allows the artist to be captured in two different
ways, for example, the celebrity lifestyle and the home
lifestyle. This enables the demographic to relate to the artist,
as she too is still a teenager.
Having the artists photographed on her own emphasises
the independence she has, and I felt that this needed to be
captured to show the demographic that they are the future,
regardless of the emergent service worker background.

SOCIAL GROUP EMERGENT SERVICE WORKER Young and often found in urban areas, this is a new class with low economic capital but high levels of ‘emerging’ cultural capital and high social capital Most likely to have a low income job or perhaps in education. Regardless of income their money is usually spent on luxuries such as concert tickets or CDs / Vinyl etc. Mainly those who are passionate about current trends, as well as being outgoing / loud / bold / fun Does not follow the crowd and is always on top of current trends around the world Their hobbies would include partying, socialising, listening to music, downloading new music, attending high social events (such as club openings, fashion week, festivals) Social media and their social group are highly important to them Economically stable enough to enjoy dance and club culture
  • 3. FRONT COVER ANALYSIS The cover star is of a similar age to the demographic of my magazine. It is important to have someone that both male and female of the emergent service worker sector can relate to as they want to be able to read about someone The cover star has been styled to look like a world wide celebrity, yet still look like an ordinary 16 – 25 year old in the demographic by having flawless makeup and stylish hair. This is something that emergent service workers strive for. The angled positioning of the cover star, with a light smile on her face is a staged photo. I wanted the feature article photograph to be something that the demographic can compare themselves to, because in the height of social media popularity, emergent service workers would be avid users of Instagram. The bold and vibrant colour scheme of black, white and purple stand out to the demographic and resemble the dance and club scene that the demographic sometimes surround themselves with.

CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS I have included two images of solo artists of a similar age to the demographic in order for the magazine to be more relatable to the reader as they look up and idolise celebrities of a similar age or older. The long shot of the artist with her arms folded expresses the look of independence and popularity, which is who my demographic are. The fashion and style of the two artists express simplistic yet fashionable styles the demographic would have. For example, the bardot jumper is at the height of fashion and followers of fashion would expect to see this on celebrities in magazines. The house style is clear in regard to the colour and typography used. Sophisticated looks are key for the demographic, due to age range and occupation. The bright purple exemplifes a resemblance to bright lights seen at clubs, parties, festivals, etc. therefore, this is something the demographic would be able to connect to .

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS The colour scheme of black, white, purple and grey is continued on the double page spread, this exemplifies house style shown throughout, maintaining the sophisticated look, linking to the look of the demographic. The typography for the title, stand first and pull out quote has a ‘handwritten’ feel to it. I wanted this to portray the relaxed and chatty tone the magazine has and I felt that this font suited best. Maintaining the chatty and relaxed tone aids in applying my demographic to my magazine because a reader would want to relate to articles they may read. The image of the artist located outside in a town centre is relatable to the demographic, as the demographic are at the center of their community due to the age range (16 – 25). The use of having two images of one artist on a double page spread allows the artist to be captured in two different ways, for example, the celebrity lifestyle and the home lifestyle. This enables the demographic to relate to the artist, as she too is still a teenager. Having the artists photographed on her own emphasises the independence she has, and I felt that this needed to be captured to show the demographic that they are the future, regardless of the emergent service worker background.
