1. EVALUATION QUESTION 7
LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK (THE COLLEGE MAGAZINE/CONTINUITY EDITING EXERCISE), WHAT DO
YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO YOUR FINAL PRODUCTION?
2. RESEARCH AND PLANNING – HOW HAVE MY SKILLS DEVELOPED?
When I first started looking/thinking about what my magazine would look like at
the end of this process, I did not expect it to look anything like it does now. When
I did my prelim task it took me around 4 hours to do it due to the fact I had no
idea what to do and how to use the software's I had to use in order to create it.
Even though when I started to create my magazine I felt as though I didn't know
what to do, I had vague idea. Therefore when I was doing this I was picking up
new skills and getting the hang of what I had to do and achieve. I had a clear
picture in my head of how I wanted my magazine to look but how to do it seemed
impossible at the beginning, however as I went on to produce the magazine it
didn't seem so impossible. With my skills developing I feel like I achieved a lot
more than I thought I could when it came to my work. Such as, my contents page,
I tweaked it a lot in order for it to look as professional as possible.
3. RESEARCH AND PLANNING – DID YOU PRODUCE WORK MORE IN LINE WITH PROFESSIONAL
PRACTICE AS YOU HAVE MORE OF AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS
When I was starting to create my magazine, as mentioned before I knew how I wanted my magazine to look
therefore I had to make sure that I was doing this. When I started I felt as though when I was looking at a
range of magazines from my chosen genre I knew how I wanted mine to look.
5. PRELIMINARY TASK TO FINISHED PRODUCT
When I was doing my preliminary task I didn't particularly understand how to work any
software's that I had to use, for example I found Photoshop extremely hard to use and felt as
though I wouldn’t be able to do the task. However, as I went on to create my magazine I
learnt a range of skills hen it came to Photoshop. The slide above this shows my preliminary
task and my final product, throughout this I learnt about how much content needs to be on
my magazine front cover. I learnt how to use my margins correctly and to align my text
properly which was important. Even simple things like changing pictures to black and white
was important due to the fact that I then learnt how to do this correctly and this was
important. Throughout this process I then learnt how to use the camera correctly to get the
best picture, I also learnt about colour schemes for my magazine and how I wanted it to look
and how I wanted it to come across to my target audience.
