1. What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructingthis product?
when constructing my product i used a variety of different
technologies in different ways to make my magazine to the
best i could. First of all i learnt how to make a questionnaire
to help with the research aspect of my magazine and then
to use that information to help with the process of making
my magazine. When taking the images for my magazine i
had to learn how to use a SLR camera for the first time to
make sure my photos were in focus and to the best
standard i could produce. I then had to learn how to then
get the images i had taken onto the computer and put them
into photoshop ready to edit them and start making my
magazine. I had used photoshop before for previous media
work but never to make a magazine so i had to learn how to
use different font, colours, images in lots of ways to help
keep the typical conventions on my magazine. Also the fact
you can use different layers on photoshop allowed me to
put writing over the top of my central image to show the
audience who the people were on the front of the magazine
and what they are promoting. Photoshop was a massive
part in helping me create my ideal magazine for my
coursework. Also after my coursework was done i had to
scan all my planning and various other items onto the
computer to put on my blog for the examiner to see.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
When starting the project, i was unaware of all the conventions you
need within a magazine and how much the little detail on
various pages of magazine matter so much so i had to learn to
write in the style of a magazine and make sure i didn’t leave
out any relevant information. To help me do this i did my
research and prepared by making a practice copy of a
magazine so then i could compare my magazine to existing
ones and see how i can then improve my own practice
magazine and see if i have anything worth keeping on it. For
my magazine, i had to take the images for it myself which was
something i am not familiar with so i had to learn how to take
the right photos i needed for my magazine front cover. Also i
then had to learn about how to edit the photo properly to
make it to look the best it could be. After using photoshop for
creating my front cover it make it easier for me to use it for the
rest of my product and i felt more confident using it as the task
went on.
Also figuring out what to write on the front cover and double page
spread was hard to do because i had never done it before and
had to understand how to write an article for a magazine
interview that would have to interest someone.
Therefore throughout the task i felt i have learnt how to use photoshop
to a high standard than i did before i started. Also doing my
research into magazines and the conventions of them before
starting making my magazine helped me in realising what i
needed to include in my own magazine and what to qualities
will work.
